| Curious as I will be there soon. Already have 4 shows lined up (pop, metal and 2 Broadway) and a pass for the Empire State Building. |

| It's not in Times Square, but it's down home American diner fare for reasonable prices. Tom's Restaurant, known in the Seinfeld TV show as, "Monks restaurant," at 112th and Broadway in upper west side directly West of Harlem is really good American food. You'll pay some serious coin to eat in Times Square in the high falootin tootin sit down joints, but I didn't do any eating in Times Square as it didn't seem comfortable to me being so rich executive oriented. All the restaurants in the Times Square area were packed every time I walked by them so getting a seat would be a wait or you need to call ahead for a reservation. |

Unless you want cookie-cutter, chain food restaurants (like Olive Garden, HoJo's, Sbarro, etc), head away from Times Square area. Walk due west towards 9-10-11th Aves into Hell's Kitchen for pub grub and some decent Italian and/or Caribbean/Hispanic, south towards Herald Square (Macy's/34th) for (gasp!!) Korean food (also close to Empire State Bldg area), ANYWHERE but TS.
Check out Zagat.com or villagevoice.com/restaurants for more real dining options anywhere in the City. |

Check out the Carnegie Deli, its close to Times Square. Best sandwiches I've ever had and uber-famous joint.
Or, Koreatown is only a few blocks away |

What kind of price range and cuisine you're interested in? Personally, I'd stay away from eating in Times Square. Without any exaggeration, ANY other area of the city (well, maybe except Wall St.) will have better eats. Unless you want Olive Garden, Hard Rock Cafe, Sbarro's, etc. for twice the price you'll pay anywhere else.
Though if you must, I'd recommend the buffet at the top floor of the Marriott Marquis. Good food, breathtaking view, reasonable (by NYC standards) prices. Avoid getting drinks (unless you want to pay $15 a drink) and do not go to the "regular" wait-service restaurant located on the same floor. Stick to the buffet.
Carmine's and Tony Di Napoli's are pretty good too. Both are family-style Italian places. Carmine's the more famous of the two, Tony's is basically a Carmine's rip-off. But you'll have a shorter wait at Tony's. Medium price. |

I remember the variety store Buffet Places. They had everything from Cabbage roles to Sushi. Usually the Lasagha was nice. Pile it up high cabbage rolls Chinese Food. Weight It . Buy a large bottle of Rolling Rock. or a half bottle of Prince Igor Vodca.
Sit on the side of the road. You're set. |

| Oh! I forgot about the buffets! They are awesome. I can't recommend any on Times Square, but I went to a lot in the area of Carnegie Hall. |

| Head to Hell's Kitchen, and you'll have your pick of trendy, non-cookie-cutter places. If you don't mind a subway ride of maybe 15 minutes, head downtown to the village. You'll have your pick of tasty food. |

I agree with previous posters who said anywhere else in Manhattan will have better/cooler restaurants... I always avoided Times Square unless I had to go there for something specific.
Having said that, there is this place called Virgil's, a bbq joint. It is beast. Granted I grew up in New Hampshire and probably don't know the first thing about BBQ, but I always loved that place. I think it's on 53rd, maybe btw 6th and 7th. Look it up.
Carmine's is good, too. I think they might be the same owner, actually.

Somewhere along Times Square is a restaurant decorated like the 50's. The wait staff are all actors trying to break into the 'biz'. They sing & dance while you eat. The food is pretty good too.
Times Square has a new pedestrian area with little red and white cafe tables, folding chairs, and umbrellas. It's just past Starbucks, in front of Walgreens. Great place to relax with a coffee and do some people watching. |
