Hey, I have a question on part iii. below:

Paid Sick Leave and Emergency Leave :

i. Documented sick leave and emergency leave will be paid for combined total of 15 80-min. classes a year. A teacher who becomes ill or has an emergency should contact his or her immediate supervisor to inform and to arrange for a substitute. He or she must provide the Institute with as much advance notice as possible, but in no case can this notice be given less than three hours before the Teachers scheduled work start time.

ii. For illnesses or absences that are two or more teaching classes in duration, the Teacher is required, upon return, to submit a medical certification documenting the absence. It is his or her responsibility to ensure that sick leave pay is received by getting the appropriate, accurate medical verification to the Institute. Failure to provide a medical certificate may result in denial of sick leave pay, and in some cases the absence may be considered as an unexcused absence for which disciplinary action may be taken. If it is found that the hours/days of absence reported as sick leave or emergency leave were not in fact for such purpose, related costs will be subtracted from the following months pay. Unused sick leave may not be converted into any cash payment.

iii. If the Teacher is absent for two or more consecutive classes without proper notification and authorization, he or she shall be deemed to have voluntarily resigned. However, even if the Teacher provides notification of his or her absence, the Institute has the ultimate right to determine if the reason given justifies the absence. The Institute cannot provide the Teacher with any additional compensation for airfare in the case of an emergency.

So let me get this straight: I eat some bad kimchi one day, wake up in the morning sick, and if I miss two classes then I've lost my job? This sounds a bit draconian.

Most Koreans don't even get sick days in their contract.

...and Americans get them to trick them into coming over here...

OP, you may catch hell if you try to use these days, no matter how sick you are.

That's okay, I'll just come to work and get the kids sick. No problem.

That's the idea. It doesn't matter if you're contagious as everyone else will also be expected to not miss work/school.

If you'd like more sick days/a more relaxed attitude to them then work public school. Not every school is nice about it but at least you won't lose your job or pay if you take a couple.

Public school gives you 11 days. I think I've used 6 or 7 in the past near-11 months, and haven't had any trouble.

My friend works at a uni and he took a sick day last week so he could recover from some dental work, and only had to reschedule his classes to another day.
