I will have to say that this story is indeed true on all accounts.
But such facilities are not just found at Bagram, but on most major installations here. The detainees are brought to the facility that is closest to where they were captured first and then transferred to the main detention facility at Bagram- known as Bldg 1205.
There is even a smaller-sized facility here in Kandahar.
The facilities are managed by permanent base personnel who PCS to Afghanistan and not on rotation from the US. However, the main staff are contractors who fall outside the category of 'private security'. A lot of these guys are ex-correctional officers from some of the worst prisons in the US.
I know this because I supply these places every two weeks and I once supervised a property inspection of one of these prisons near Herat.
These places are really bad news. |
