I'm interested in knowing how often you see one of your co-workers in tears at work.

Just now where I am we're averaging one a week.

Are they pretty female teachers? You could always buy them a drink or dinner after work and I sure that make them feel better. After all a few at my school get beaten up often by husbands after soju fights.

Indeed they are young and pretty. As far as I'm aware the VP is giving them a hard time of it.

I ask mainly to see if people cry often at other schools, or if this school is particuarly miserable.

Also, I sit next to the 'elder sister' of their group, so when something is wrong they're all gathered by my desk crying and clucking, so I always feel really awkward, not really knowing what to say or do. So I sit there pretending to be busy and that I haven't noticed what's going on, when it's in fact impossible not to notice.

I work at a public middle school. In four years, I have never NEVER seen a teacher cry at my school. Maybe they cry in the bathroom, but no one cries in the Teacher's Office.

I've never seen a teacher cry in the teachers' office, either. However, 2 senior male teachers had a real bust up (yelling and posturing) on the first day of term. All the women teachers were cowering.

Is that professional, or what?

Hi There,

It could be the sign of a hard*** principal if more then one of them is doing it.

Any idea of the reason or just life/stress?

Yeah the school isn't scoring very highly in tests. Also apparently the younger lady teachers are being sexually harrassed by some of the students Shocked

Emotion is irrational, and illogical. Emotion will make you weak. Above all never show emotion. It's also a really good idea to never show emotion if you are the lone foreigner in a public school a real sign of weakness.
I am like Spok both in the classroom and at work. My teacher personality is Spok.

Yeah, I had that happen a couple years ago. When it went down, teachers fanned out to the doors of the office to make sure none of the students came in and saw it happen. Professional, indeed.

well, doesn't matter what they do to each other, as long as the kids keep coming to class!

The secratary cries at least once a week because she is overworked.

One of the Korean teachers cries after she goes on bad dates and the guys don't call her back. She's divorced and in her early forties and a complete train wreck. You know the day after a bad date because she comes in sighing really bad then sits in her chair and leans so far back it's almost like she laying down. She then repeaditly says "why, why, why," until somebody asks what's wrong and it 's usually me because I sit right next to her and she has her arms out streched like she's nailed to a cross and almost touching me.

Then for a solid 20 minutes I have to tell her positive things like your nice and pretty and your too good for these guys. That usually calms her down.

Then we have the single rare case where our one Korean male teacher came in tore up drunk (later found out he tried quitting many times but the boss pursuaded him to keep working. This was his way of making sure she would fire him.) She actually ended up not firing him and just sending him home for the day. But after he left all the teachers were starting to cry saying how he has a problem and it's soooo sad. I was just shocked at how he came in drunk and didn't get fired.

I don't know, I find Koreans tend to be more open about their emotions than many Westerners.
