I know that as a Canadian wanting to teach in Korea I will need the following documents:
- notarized criminal record check
- notarized degree
- passport
Is there anything else I can get in advance before a school becomes involved/ applying for a visa? I have heard that an applicant is more desirable if the school will not need to assist with as much paperwork.
Thanks!
-Andrew
Ps I did a search and looked througb FAQs and it still was not clear to me. |

You'll also need academic transcripts in sealed and stamped envelope x 2, reference letters (not from relations) x2, passport sized photo x 2.
Amount of paper work: yes and no. Comparison of E-2 and F-4's paper work would make E-2s look unemployable but that's not the reality. Just have all the required docs ready. That's all they want to hear.
If you can: have the documents in digitalized form for yourself, especially the passport, and keep them in a handy USB memory of kind. |

I have a document checklist, and it does not include reference letters.
The required documents on my list are as follows:
1. apostilled copy of diploma
2. two copies of official transcripts (signed, dated, and sealed)
3. photocopy of the face page of your passport
4. apostilled copy of criminal background check
5. resume
6. signed copy of your contract
7. four passport-sized photos
8. medical examination self-check form
This is for the E2 visa. |

Accurate list for the Canadians out there. However, there should
be one addition. According to at least one official at immigration
the notarization of documents must be done on Maple Leaf soil.
A few years back I was able to carry out this process at the Canadian
embassy in Seoul. I was informed that this is no longer possible.
So, the short of it is, you have to either be in Canada or have someone
in Canada do it for you. For someone out of the country for a number of
years and/or do not possess the ties back home to carry out the paper
stamping process - you are **it out of luck - you have to return home
if you want to be issued an E-2 visa. |

Is there an expiration date on sealed transcripts? I have 3 sets (and 1 opened) of transcripts that I received 2 years ago. I assume these are still okay (the sealed ones obviously). |

If you can easily get new ones do so, since it's always better to be safe than sorry. I did use transcripts that were over a year old for my third (and most recent visa application) and it was fine. This was with the Vancouver consulate about 15 months ago, but again things change and different consulates can be more demanding about certain things. So I would recommend getting new transcripts. |
