|
|
For the last four days the my INternet service, provided by Thrunet, has been crap. I cannot access most Yahoo based sites...This includes my e-mail, my personal webpage which is hosted by Yahoo, and MyYahoo!
I can access them from other computers using different services. A call to Thrunet seems to reveal that the problem must be my computer (never a Korean's fault...)
Anyone else having the same problems or any suggestions?
At least I can get to this site...Thank God |

Yeah, I had a few problems with Thrunet slowing to a crawl over the past few days, but it seems to have cleared up for me already. |

I tried to contact them. It went something like this:
Thrunet: Is your modem plugged in?
Me: Yes
Thrunet: Is it on?
Me: Yes
Thrunet: Is your modem connected to your computer?
Me: Yes
Thrunet: Is your computer on?
Me: Yes
Thrunet: Are you still having the problem?
Me: Yes
Thrunet: It must be because of your English Windows program |

have a colleague where I work with the same problem. Guy came out to look at his computer told him it was his computers problem.
looks like its not by the responses here and on the yahoo thread on Q&A its not an individual computer problem.
He was also telling me Korean sites were coming up fine, its western sites that are blocked. anybody else have this problem?
Looks like Megapass may be getting some more subscribers |

This is common with many Korean ISPs. There are many causes of it, one of them being US servers automatically blocking access from wide swaths of Korean ISPs in response to Korea-based attacks. |

Yeah I have had the same problem. Can't access any blogs hosted at typepad or blogs.com
the service guy came looked at my computer told me it was my computer. I had a fresh windows install on another partition and showed him the same BS... he just looked at me and told me it was my problem.
Showed him that I can access the sites through a proxy http://proxify.com and he didn't seem to care. My wife helped but she doesn't really understand computers and is a little too passive when it comes to BS service issues. |

I have Cybervillage here in my new place, and they CAN fix the problem if they REALLY WANT TO.
My problem was that the ability to update my personal webpage was blocked. They came out and typed in some kind of Windows work-around code that uses a proxy of some kind. Took the guy like 30 minutes and several calls, but he got it working.
Basically, what Lemon said is right. There are several routers blocked from Korea by the USA, and vice-versa sometimes. You can thank spammers and virus propogators. |

I just wrote a long message to thier service centre and am awaiting a reply.

Today I had a service guy come to my home about my inability to access certain web sites. The service guy spent a long time and was very polite but he told me that the problem is with my computer.
I disagree for 3 reasons. first I just reinstalled windows and the problem is persisting. Secondly, this evening I visited a friend, who is also using thrunet, and I could not visit these sites. And finally because of a thread on a message board for expats in Korea http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=17564&highlight=thrunet where several thrunet users are complaining of the same problems.
I can access these websites via a proxy server such as http://proxify.com which is also indicative that the problem resides with thrunet. One of my friends who is using hanaro, is able to access all of these sites without problem. I am also able to access them from several PCbangs and my place of employment. It is very clear to me that thrunet is the cause of the problem.
Access to these web sites is necessary for me in both my professional and personal life. If access to these sites is not restored quickly I will be forced to switch to a different internet service provider. |

I got a phone call from thrunet this morning and they acknowledged that the problem is originating from them. I was told they would call me once it has been fixed.
The girl who called was very nice and spoke English pretty good as well. thank you thrunet. |

I'm with thrunet too- though out in the wilds of chungcheong. Last week I was getting a lot of wierd server messages, but it seems to have calmed down now. No problems accessing yahoo. |

Thought my problems had cleared up, but I wasn't able to use the Web last night.

Funny you mention that.... the first few months of using Thrunet, I kept getting system messages that were actually adverts. I guess someone complained, and Thrunet finally figured out how to block them (months later, I might add). |

These were definitely not adverts. Instead of getting the usual "page not found" I'd get a white grid, and something about DNS errors- nothing to click. I'd try the site again a few minutes later and it was usually fine |
