Hi everyone
My current Visa runs out on June 23rd, and I told my boss I wouldn't be renewing. She said she wants to get a replacement to fill in for me as I want to go back in September, and that I'll get my job back when I return, which is perfect. I have no reason to doubt my boss, so no issues there.
I've found someone who wants to cover for the 3 months I'm gone. His contract runs out on May 31st. He'd need to work at my hagwon from mid-June to mid-September.
What will my replacement need to do in terms of his Visa? Will he have to go through the whole E2 Visa process again? Is a Visa transfer with a letter of release possible in this instance or not do you think?
I also assume that he would have to go to the Korean Embassy in Osaka or Fukuoka regardless as he would be working with a new employer?
Any advice would be much appreciated, as I'm a bit confused as to what needs to be done!
Thanks loads. |

Caution. Caution. Caution. If the 'new guy' is more blonde/blue eyed than you - or he attracts more kids to the hagwon - then there won't be a job waiting for you on your return.
Also, he'll have to go through the whole E2 visa process (documents, apostilles, CRC) to work for another (new) employer.
'
And you will also need to go through the E2 process again to be employed once you've resigned and want to re-enter Korea to work for your old hagwon (or a new one). |

I'm aware of this, however neither myself or the other foreign teachers before me have ever experienced any issues with my boss with what she promises at all.
My current E2 Visa will be extended before my contract runs out (to June 2011), and I'll get a multiple entry Visa which will cover my time away.
Also, making sure I get a return flight to/from the UK on the employer's card - and making it non-refundable when I book. She won't wanna throw away that kind of money haha.
Luckily the boss likes me (god knows why) and the Korean teachers have informed me that if a foreign teacher does have to go, it'll be the other guy that works here. Hmm.
Thanks for the advice on what the new guy will have to do - I'll get on the case there.
Also he's brunette with brown eyes. I'm blond and blue haha! Of course I can't speculate about attracting more students. |

It's all clear now. You won't be having any problems getting your old job back. K's just love blonde blue eyed Waegooks.
Incidentally, Japanese are the same. I had a tall blonde blue eyed Dutch girlfriend once - and the Japs used to follow her around like a mother duck with ducklings. It drove her crazy. |
