|
|
I have some time off from my current job this summer. 8 weeks, to be exact. With my school's blessing, I've done summer/winter camps in the past with two separate companies.
What's a decent pay for summer camps in Korea? (2.5 was the highest I've ever been paid, but the camps were cake)
And what is the most you've made for a summer camp?
Basically, I'm looking to go to the highest bidder, regardless of crazy work hours. I'm already in Korea, so I won't benefit from airfare stipends.
Any ideas/fun stories/snark? Bring it on! |

I didn't do a summer camp but I do teach in my own school over summer vacation, winter too. I do three extra 40 minute classes per day for four weeks and get a 1.3million bonus....well worth it.
Best part is, if my normal students sign up for the summer class then they don't have their usual class and I get that off. This works out really well if it's my final class of the day then I can go home earlier. |

This past summer I got paid 3 or 3.3, I forget. It was for a Mon-Sat 4 week camp with MWF and TTS groups. Hours were 9-5. |

Decent pay is at minimum one million won / week.
Some pay more than that for hiring at short notice. Salaries go up as it gets close to the starting date. |

This is what I got 2/3 camps that I taught. It was not their "starting" wage though. It was for people with extensive experience or qualifications.
Last summer I did a 3 week camp, but really that money wasn't worth it as I had to stay over night and the first week we had nightly events. The teaching was easy though and there were lots of activities during the day.
My best camp was back in 2008. 2 weeks, 2mil won and I was done by 4pm everyday. Every afternoon was an activity. I wish I could teach that every year, but I lost touch with the people running it.
My worse camp was 4 weeks for 3mil won and we had to teach 8 classes a day. NOT WORTH IT. Oh and we worked everyday of the week.
I am done with camps for awhile though. If you have an MA, try the university camps that spring up in June. They pay 1mil a week or more. |

yep; just give it a wait and see approach - you'll have them bidding for you -
best pay I ever made - 4 mill for a 4 week camp; I commuted so didn't have to sleep/eat there which was also better IMO |

The pay will vary depending on your experience and visa.....to say that 1 million a week is normal is not really accurate unless you're on an F-visa. I am not saying that it can't be done, but it isn't normal. Most of the great camps, such as the corporate gigs, will only hire F-visa holders.
That being said...we made 1 million per week last winter at a camp and are on E-2 visas, but that particular camp would only hire university professors. |

One million a week is the minimum you should take for a 6 day a week camp. Possibly w800,000 for a 5 day a week camp.
For 2.5 a month and no airfares, I might as well start my new contract early and earn more when you factor in airfares, severance, pension etc. |
