So I have left my school 6months into the contract, both parties agreeing it's best to end the contract. I leave the country in a few days, how do I clear up ending the E-2 visa? Or do the school end it on your behalf?
ALso what do you do with the ALien registration card?
Cheers |

Are you coming back to a new job?
If not, hand in the arc at immigration in the airport, tell them you're not returning.
Your school will have to cancel your visa if they are replacing you.
If you have a new job starting soon then it may be possible to transfer your visa without having to leave the country. You will need your old schools help with this. Otherwise it's fresh document time. |

I'm not sure if the school will be replacing us, does that matter? I will not be returning to Korea.
If the school dont cancel my visa, is there anything that could come back to me? like not informing immigration, or is that the schools job? |

The school would need to cancel the visa in order to get a new teacher. When you get to the airport hand over your arc at immigration. Inform them that you are not returning. You should be clear. |

Thanks for your help... I'm hoping the school will cancel it, but as I say i'm not sure they will, because I doubt they will get a new teacher. The school is not doing well, and it aint very professional.
Could I cancel it? |

It is not true that a school has to cancel the visa of one teacher to get a visa for another one. So, no one should ever count on that bit of false information.
However, when you leave Korea and hand in your ARC and tell the Immigration official to cancel your visa and that you are not returning, that should take care of it.
If you never come back it won't matter anyway.
Have a nice trip home. |

I have been asked by the school, to take the ARC with me, and then they will cancel the Visa when I get back home. |

dont do that. if you are finished with that job, turn in your AQRC at the airport and tell them to cancel it because you are finished. you can be fined if you keep it and try to return later in some situations. |

It is true however, that a school only has a certain number of visas it can sponsor based on the number of students (at least as of 2005). If this law has changed, could you please provide the relevant cite as I like to keep up to date as much as possible?
Thank you. |

I have been sponsored by a school with zero students in the past, and that was before 2005. I don't believe there has been a rule based on number of students, at least not in the last ten years or so.
The school provides Immigration with a schedule of classes and hours. It doesn't matter how many are in a class, even if there are none. Our school has never been asked about students nor to cancel one visa to get another one.
Immigration doesn't care about the number of students or the number of visas a school is issued (within some reasonable limit, of course, they would likely question a school asking for hundreds of visas). |

Sorry to necropost, but do I need to cancel my e2 visa before obtaining a Japanese working visa? Or can I get my visa while working in Korea and THEN cancel my e-2?
My situation sounds complicated, so I really appreciate any information regarding this. |

Korean and japanese visas have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Nothing complicated about it. |
