Hello,
I'm looking into the possibility of teaching ESL in Korea and am in discussion with a few recruiting agents. I'm a UK national currently living with my girlfriend in Australia on a tourist visa. Do I need to be in the UK when I apply for the E-2 visa, or can I do it from here? I've seen information that suggests the former but so far no-one has been able to give me a definitive answer. Apologies if this has already been covered in another post - I did look but couldn't find anything. Just want to be sure either way before I invest any more energy into the project.
Any help much appreciated,
Tom |

Hey mate, sorry but you very much need to be in whatever country your passport is from! I was raised from the age of 2 in New Zealand but still had to go back to the UK and get a UK criminal background check to come to Korea. |

I got my second E-2 visa while living in Aus (I am American) in 2008. It was pain. As the above poster said, however, you may have trouble getting your background check. Will the issuing agency in the UK give you the background check without being present? |

First E2 means you MAY need to return home for the paperwork AND the consular interview.
Previously held an E2 then yes, you can do it from there.

Um I just applied for an E2 (haven't received it yet) and I did it IN KOREA. This will be my first e2 and I had my degree verified by the education ministry here. The manager at the company where I work at says I need to go to Japan for a visa run next week where I will get my visa and I do not need to go back to Canada. I brought my original degree/sealed transcripts to Korea with me last september and did my CBC through winnipeg police services. So far so good and if it works out that will pretty much dispel the myth of having to first apply in your home country. By the way I came over here on a D4 visa.
I'll let you guys all know if it works out. |
