How many of you (males) have long hair? I have been growing my hair out for a couple of months and am thinking of letting it grow for a while. I was wondering if I would have trouble getting another job when I finish my contract at my current school? Does anybody think this will cause me some trouble or will it be ok? |

I think it will depend on your employer. Mine's sort of long at the moment and it hasn't caused me any problems. |

My hair is long and I've never had a problem. It's not much longer than the way some Korean men have let their hair grow. Other's that I know who have longer hair than mine have never mentioned anything about how employers view them. As long as you look clean and have a pulse, that's all that matters. |

I loved having long hair, it was shoulder length before.. I think you can possibly get away with it here, so long as its tied in a pony tail and hidden. however it may matter at an interview, even if they overlook it in the workplace... I have had my boss comment on my lengthening hair once, I had a nice trim moustache and beard for a while until my boss insisted I got rid... |

why do the majority of the men here have long hair? It was retarded looking back home, and still is here. Is it because your lazy, and have no one to impress...since korean women have no standards when it comes to the wakgook male or what??? I don't get it. |

If my hair is more than an inch long, I start to panic. But by god they'd better not cut off my sideburns when I go for my haircut this week.
My boss probably isn't too keen on my goatee (sans mustache... just the chin job), but it's mine and I'm keeping it. |

When I came to Korea originally, I was advised to clean up, so I cut the long hair, and shaved the beard and mustache. Then, about 2 years later, I was home for a month and let my mustache and beard grow back. A few years ago, I let my hair grow long again, and I haven't had any problems getting jobs. I was always sure to send a current picture to potential employers so they weren't shocked when they saw the long hair and beard.
Osangrl:
I like long hair. It's easy to deal with. I don't have to spend any time in front of the mirror, I just tie it back and off I go. I never have to worry about "bad hair days" Same goes for the beard. I hate shaving. Trimming my beard once a month or so suits me just fine. So yeah, to answer your question, I guess I'm just lazy...

Long hair will keep you from being mistaken as one of those burr-headed GIs... I'd like to grow my hair out a bit, but the helmet makes my head itch! |

Which is something that I am eternally grateful for...
Anyway, my hair was a bit shaggy but barbers here don't know how to deal with naturally wavy/curly hair very well (can't blame them) so I ended up with mine hacked annoyingly short |

This is the reason I am thinking letting it continue to grow. |

I use to have longer hair..
I had it like that in Busan years ago as well (those pics are from Peru and Bolivia).. it was overall good.. but A LOT more stares and such. Usually kept it in a ponytail in Korea.. because too weird for Koreans if I didn't. But overall it was never a problem.. maybe even good.. the hogwan director use to find me whenever she wanted pictures of the teachers for advertising..
Easier when I cut it though.. much easier.. before I came back to Seoul again in Sept 2000.. that was the first thing I did.. got it cut.. but anyhow..
overall either way seemed fine to me having had it both ways in Korea..
Tons more pics on my website/blog as well.. particularly if anyone wants to keep up with the Spain stuff coming up!!

You look unreal in those photos. I didn't realise you were/are ROCK 'n ROLL!!!
That top photo of you with the llamas could be an entrant in Dave's photo contest. |

yeah its weird getting older.. 33 soon to be 34 in a couple months.
Pics were from now 5-6 years ago.. had long hair from about the age of 17 until about 29..
Times change.. no desire or interest in growing it back though. Maybe when I'm an old man with gray hair and grandkids though.. hehe
Anyhow.. thanks Eamo! |

I'm 35 this weekend.
Don't know where the years went.
I have blurred memories of many a good time yet I've never posed with llamas on a mountain in Peru.
Good for you TB!! |

I'm growing a beard now. I like it but it's annoying at the hagwon. There's npt a songle kid who doesn't comment on it once or twice during the day. |
