Peugeot, Samsung, Fiat, cool!
What other makes do they have in Korea that aren't available in the US?
For around 35 Million -W- what would be a good sports/GT/sporty car to purchase? New or pre-owned. I'm open to Jeep Wrangler / FJ40 types as well. Pics appreciated! |

Makes would include GM Daewoo and Ssangyong.
I noticed that Korea still gets the VW Phaeton (at least the last time I checked).
The Samsung SM520 is identical to my beloved Nissan Maxima. I'm about to hit 250,000 miles in that car (8 miles to go) so I've been thinking about where/when I want to be when it happens. |

Though it's available in North America, the new Genesis Coupe is quite nice. Rear wheel drive, V6, great design. Around 35M for the V6 with options.
Edit: Not FWD, RWD, hence why I wanted to mention it.

The Genny is not front wheel drive, that's the very reason why it's good. It's a genuine RWD sports car, with optional Brembo BBK and Torsen LSD.
Personally, I would get the 2.0T, with the brakes and diff, and then do intake, exhaust and a boost controller. It'll be quicker than the V6 and cheaper.
Are you settled down here permanently though? There really is no reason to buy a nice car if you'll be here for a year or two. |

Being an auto enthusiast in Korea must suck unless your richer than Croesus.
The few Ricers I know seem to prefer the Hyundai Avanti...it's like the honda civic of korea. |

I don't know, I've seen some pretty nice cars here. Admittedly, I also see massive rice, like a Sonata with a GT wing and full racing livery, but there are good cars too.
The Gen coupes especially seem to be pretty tastefully modded. I see a lot of nice ones driving around. The Hyundai I30 and the Daewoo Lacetti seem to be the popular compacts for tuning, and I've seen a lot of clean examples of those. (just dropped on nice wheels and en exhaust).
I also saw a shitbox looking Tiburon once, but then I heard him gun it, and the car took off and had the loudest blow off valve ever, so I guess they're familiar with sleepers as well |

The upcoming Sonata Turbo looks to be pretty hot. 274 HP with 34 MPG is incredible.

BTW, has anyone ever bought a NEW car in Korea?
If so, did you have to haggle or were the prices the same at every dealer? |

Just saw a Hyundai that looked very similar to the new GT-R Skyline from the side and back.. Anyone have an idea what model it might be? Or just a Skyline with a huge H badge |

I bought a 2010 SM3 last September. Because it was a new model there was no negotiation on the price. However, because my gf new the dealer, I got a free navigation system.
I don't think that you'll see a lot of difference in prices with new cars but of course you could haggle for extras like tinting and other accessories. |

you got one thing wrong. it's rwd. its a fun car to drive with decent power but the transmission sucks. if you enjoy a laggy first to second gear shift have fun with it. ive driven hyundai genesis coupe test mules and production cars and the v6's all exhibit the same laggy first to second shift. to my knowledge the 4 cylinder turbo doesnt exhibit this. the engineers know of this problem but havent fixed it in the 10' or 11' models.
edit: oops someone else corrected the rwd part. |

I'm assuming you saw a Genesis coupe. The closest I ever saw to a GT-R in Korea was some guy's Kia sedan plastered with about 10 GT-R badges. I was going to take a pic but he was right there with his family. |

Going to be here for a bit...
I've owned a Miata "Track Kitted", Audi A4 Turbo, and a Subura WRX STI last. I'm thinking maybe utilitarian may be the way to go in Seoul. |
