Fellow teachers,

I've long been involved in the power of technology to transform education. Been frustrated because the potential far outweighed the functionality. However, finally we do have something that can benefit all teachers - an English Language Teaching Specific Search Engine.

No more wondering and slogging through millions of links. Get results based on what experienced teachers recommend. Filtered so all sorts of annoying, old and worn out stuff doesn't clog up the drain.

However, it needs your help. Read more about it on my blog. http://ddeubel.edublogs.org It works on the power of teachers voting and recommending/commenting on the best sites. Popular search terms will also be "hotted".

Let me know what you think but most importantly, spread the news and get others using it. It works based on the power of many.

Cheers,

DD

Thanks. I'll be getting the word out and the more other teachers vote, comment -- the better the results will be. It will only get better. For the moment though, I've done a lot of work filtering out stuff (takes someone who knows this whole realm!).

This will be developed more and soon all users will be able to modify / instantly push up results. Stay tuned.

Why? well, the search functions out there are not so useful for a very specific community really. Of course, you can find stuff but there are a lot of old sites that get high rankings, a lot of "tricksters" that know how to abuse SEO. I could provide a million instances. Plus you get those megasites always jumping in - like wikipedia, about.com etc.... they aren't too useful for most teachers.

Also did it because I can. Love the possibility, if done right, of technology in education. No paying, just getting what you need. (but thanks to Eurekster for allowing us to use their technology without paying!).

But the more teachers vote, the better the site will become as the Swicki grows intelligent. Read the faqs to get a broad idea how this concept works. http://www.eurekster.com/aboutswickis/faqs
