I was a finalist for a Steve Jobs acting job with XP TALENT (www.xptalent.net) from Korea's very well known foreigner. We all know him - a high profile Canadian in Korea via his acting, businesses (seoul circle social club, xptalent agency, and youtube broadcast page. Probably top 5.

So I was a finalist for a Steve Jobs acting job, which he represented me for, It came down to me (in korea) and 1 guy living in Canada. The guy in Canada was too expensive (flights, hotels, etc) and my E2 visa would be a delay). Luckily I got my visa early and I never heard from Mike again after telling him so. Finally, I received a txt message from him saying,

"Sorry but you didn't get the job, they gave it to me!"

I responded back that this was a Conflict of Interest because he is representing people, and take jobs if you can get them.

I mentioned that this process was a definite C of I and I'd post it on Dave's ESL to get some transparency - I think it is unprofessional because his self interests could become a hindrance to aspiring talent like myself.

Once I said to him that "I'd post it on Dave's".. Here are his responses (txt messages saved on my phone)

"Does that mean u don't want me to show ur profile to agents anymore?"

"Do what you have to do, just next time get your facts correct"

"Does it (your dave's post) mention your illegal teaching?"

"I mind my own business and I'm not a trouble maker"

"Thank you for harassing me (my txt concerning C of I issues)"

"I don't understand what I did wrong or why ur so angry"

**I'm also very critical of his Seoul Circle Social Group on Facebook. Events cost 20,000won per head for pitchers and appetizers (sausages and assorted snacks). With 50 or so active members, it's mostly a business with large returns (I'm guessing 500,000won - 700,000won profit for each event). Nothing else is provided like entertainment.

email me for his name if you can't figure it out STILL [email protected]

Yes, it's a conflict of interest and maybe it's blackmail, depending on if you DO actually teach illegally. Plus, you already screwed up by saying his name was "Mike", so for anyone who's not a moron knows it's obviously mikeinkorea.

It's kind of weird that he would get the job considering how he's supposed to be your agent and representing you, that's not what a talent agent is supposed to do. He should let you know if he was in the running, and decline and counter that you're supposed to be the prospective actor if he was offered the job.

Personally, I like mikeinkorea, and I think his seoul social circle groups are cool, though I doubt he makes much money off of them. Even if he does, it's a smart idea and I can't blame him for it.

Actually the thing that bugs me most is that he uses "u" instead of "you" in his texts. Come on Mike, don't be lazy.

He is an agent, a director, an actor, among other things. I don't see what the problem is? You could always get a different agent if you think that what he's doing is unfair. I do admit that it is on the border, but I think you could argue it from both sides. In any event, it's not the first time that's ever happened with agents and actors. I wish you the best!

Who the hell is mikeinkorea?

I've starting my 4th year in Korea and this is the first I've heard of him. Maybe I don't hang out with enough Waygookins. Maybe I just don't give a crap about who that random white guy is the background of a TV show/movie.

This guy is an actor? Really? Was he that goofy guy on "English Cafe" EBS show? Should I start calling LA clubs/bars letting them know to add mikeinkorea to their A-List of celebrities?

Have you seen his myspace page? He lists his heroes as:

"Sean Pen Ben Kingsley so many great actors I admire and people who make a difernce in this worl Audrey Hepburn Lady Di and al philanthropists"

I think the OP should offer mikeinkorea some English lessons in exchange.

True, true.

For those who don't know, mikeinkorea is a fairly famous (relatively, I mean) youtuber who has uploaded thousands of videos about his life in Korea, some of them can be pretty enlightening. He's bounced back and forth between Korea and the States for years.

mike is not famous! FAR FROM IT!
he hasnt appeared in anything big in korea!
soon as I heard he was opening a TALENT AGENCY I thought to muself hahahahaha yeah... bascially it was a way for him to make sure he gets first dibs at all the work going through which meets his profile..

he left Korea becuase he couldnt make anything happen!!

bit parts in tv, or extras in movies, any foreigner can get that!

dont worry to much about it...
let it go man.. get some new agents, actually people who are AGENTS!
and keep trying...

this guy mike isnt even a good actor! I saw something he did on TV last year, and his acting he belongs on surprise with the russians!

What provoked these responses?

"Do what you have to do, just next time get your facts correct"

"Does it (your dave's post) mention your illegal teaching?"

Where is the No/No option?

I would have answered "A little, but I'm not surprised" on both though.
