Just curious...like to hear you opinion on this. Just receved a bill for December-February for 525, 000 Won...what the frick! Has abyone ever been hit by something this huge? We run a small space heater for the apartment instead of the Oil cause that's so darn expensive...anyway just curious.

Cheers

Assuming you had just one heater running 24/7 at 1500 watts, that would cost 100,000 Won a month. I pay 80 Won per kilowatt hour which is only slightly more than what I paid back home in Canada, and I'm from B.C. which is an energy exporter.

Sounds very wrong. For 3 months?

I pay between 8000-15,000 per month on electricity. I don't run much though, just the fridge, computer, tv and light in the evenings.

In the summer I had the air-conditioner on all the time and it never went past 20,000 per month.

Over 150,000 per month for you sounds like an error. Did you get the bill directly from the electric company or is that what your Director claims that you owe?

Do you live in a huge place? Consider what JackSarang wrote.

if you have a bill that is directly from the electric company, check to see if its YOUR address on it. you may also want to arrange for someone from the company to make a housecall and check out your system...maybe there your meter needs calibration.

in my old place, the power rates were pretty high...but not that high.

I am with Gord on this one:

Those electric heaters suck A LOT more than you would imagine. If you were using that heater to save on OIL costs, well your penny pinching just screwed ya over. OIL is actually a lot cheaper than heating your place by an electric heater.

Also considering last summer, I had my aircon on almost 24/7 and had a 1 month bill of 500k, I think your bill makes sense.

Electric heaters and airconditioners eat up energy...it's just that simple.

Why do many office workers have personal heaters under or near their desks in winter? Why do the professors all have electric heaters? Does it save money?

If my employer provides me with an electric heater to keep my university housing warm in the winter, should the employer share in the cost of the high electric bill?

The bill could well be accurate. Spaceheaters are notorious juice-suckers & some are undoubtedly less efficient than others. Poor at warming up a space too -- their heat seems to dissipate quickly.

Offices, schools, & other public bldgs, even if they have some kind of central heating, feel drafty & chilly in winter. I dont think the workers care a damn about conserving energy -- it aint on their nickel.

I'd like to think it is because Koreans are pussies who can't take a little cold. Also does it save money? Nope, but if office workers aren't paying the bills, why should they care?

Nope, providing and forcing you to use it are two totally different things.

If I provide you with a TV, should I have to pay for your electricity or cable bill? If I provide you with a bed, should I be forced to wash your sheets and change your pillows? Again, NOPE.

Things are provided as is that is the onus is on YOU to use or not to use, to take care and pay for usage bills that occur from using said item(s).

(Post #2000...doesn't feel any different....)

It sounds about right. Even my tiny one room place got up to 80,000 in February and it sounds like you must have a few bedrooms.

My electricty bill this month was a little over 5000won. 300x that doesn't really sound. Hell, back in Canada I was only paying a little over $100.
