I'm looking at buying a villa in Hongdae (near the "mountain park") going up towards Sinchon.

I was wondering if anyone knows about the redevelopment plans underway in Hongdae, specifically the rail line going to Incheon as well as the "park" that's going to be built on top of the rail line? I see that heavy construction on the right of way is already underway.

Basically, I'm afraid that they're going to demolish all the low-rises buildings in that entire area and build up concrete skyscrapers soon thereafter, thereby killing the charm of that neighborhood altogether...in which case, I don't want to be there.

might want to go to the local 'dong' or 'gu' office and ask before you buy.

I was quoted 2.6 million to 2.9 million won for a 3 bedroom, 1 bath...presumably in the "old style" i.e. not modern renovated.

The high-rise apartments with a view were quoted at 5 million -- which is out of my budget not to mention, I'm not a fan of high-rise apartments to begin with.
