I started a private in February who wanted lessons 3 times a week at 2 hours a pop. I told them I charge 40,000 an hour and that 12 lessons (for the month of February) would be 960,000, but since they were back to back, I would charge an even 900,000 for the month (around 37,500). Here's the thing, February is a short month where it is exactly 28 days. The father has come to expect and argue that he pays me only 900,000 a month whereas some months will come to include 13 and sometimes 14 lessons. (14 lessons X 2 hours=28 hours...900,000/28 hours= 32,000 won an hour which is really low considering there is no recruiter AND well, it's a private!...also, this place is really off the beaten path) He says that this is Korean Culture where you are paid the same each month. I argued that if I work at a McDonald's in Korea or anywhere else, they pay me by the hour...every school pays you by the hour. If I teach only Tuesdays at this one company and all of a sudden there are 5 Tuesdays one month, then I am paid for 5 Tuesdays...pretty much, I am paid for the work I do. What makes me sick is this guy has 30 BILLION won (literally) and he's trying to scam some kid in debt trying to pay back his loans. What would you guys do in this situation? Am I wrong? |

Kiddirts,
I hear you man, but (for company work at least) you are paid the same no matter how many days there are. Do you have a contract with this guy? Do you get benefits? If not I would state that you are paid for your time, and are not a contract employee. Incidentally, April 5 th (Monday) is a Korean National Holiday as is April 15 (Thursday). Will you be expected to work on any of these holidays? |

it's just 3 times a week and we arrange it according to the boy's schedule...so yeah, I'll be working 3 times that week...but he took February's payment of exactly 900,000 and applied it to every other month. Not fair, I think. |

My heart bleeds for you. You get paid damn well to teach your native language (most likely illegally) and you're quibbling over an extra lesson or two. If you don't like the arrangement end it, arguing about it with the guy will only make you sound like a greedy a**hole (he is paying you 900,000 a month!)

That's pretty good cash.
Wish a private like that jumped in my lap. I wouldn't complain about it |

are 32,000 hour privates hard to come by? My second lowest is 40,000. I appreciate the feedback (it's what I was looking for) but in the land of 50k+ why is my situation a peach? |

stop whining and be glad you are getting 900,000. It's all illegal anyway. |
