Hello, so i am in current negotiations to end my contract earlier than expected and have another job lined up. What is the process for transferring the employee on your records? Both schools have to meet at the immigration office or something? Any rules or stipulations on how this is done is greatly appreciated! Thank you

I have done this a few times and each time it was a little different. However, each time the current employer just had to fill out a transfer form. You take that with you to immigration, a form from the new school (with some license number if it is a public school, not sure about hagwon), filled out application, about 60,000 won I think (50 more if you want a multiple entry visa), and your passport and ARC card.

One time I went alone and gave them both, the other time I went with the new school and I walked out with both in hand and new addresses for the school and apartment on the back of the ARC card.

If you are going to a hagwon, I would have them ask immigration. They will be the ones who need to either be with you or provide you the paperwork. The current school just fills one one simple transfer form.

If you went through a recruiter, they should be able to send you a form in Korean for the principal to fill out. Actually, so you know, my principal didn't want to be bothered by filling it out. So, the vice-principal and my co-teacher filled it out and then the principal just signed it.

If you have a similar kind of principal, ask your co-teacher to help or school owner.

I think the form is 경력증명서 (I just got this from a search in my email). I can't find the actual email sent with the file. Maybe you can get it from immigration or someone else might have it.

i did it last august. i wrote my own letter of release which just said

I hearby release ________ from my institute and allow him to work at any other place.

or something similar. i put it on headed paper, i just used the school logo and made the headed paper myself. and then got the director to sign it. the new job (SMOE) gave me a form with my new school on it. i took all that to immigration and paid 60,000 won and it was done within an hour. they stamped the back of my ARC with the new job and i had 1 more year from then.

I had my interview with the school i am looking to transfer to. So bad news regarding my situation is that although the end of next month would be 6 months it isnt.....because my school postponed my ARC by a month so this pushes my 6 month mark back by 1 month. Even though i started working a month prior to that labeled on the card. The company told me immigration would go by that but would inquire with them about the situation since it was late. However, they said that if I cant get the 6 month mark to transfer then I would more than likely have to make a midnight run back to the US and reapply for a visa...... screw that. Hopefully it doesnt turn out that way. I will update as i found out new info.~ (sorry for my sloppy grammar, etc. ran to the interview with 1 hour of sleep)
