Im sure this has been covered somewhere (Id be blowed if I can find it though!).

Basically I have an intermediete student who is progressing fairly well in her English developement.

However she has a habit of mixing her gender pro-nouns, object pronouns e.t.c.
( Seh says 'He' when she means 'She' and vice versa)

I cant seem to get her to break the habit so I be would interested in any ideas or advice on the subject.

Thankyou.

Make a diagram with two circles that overlap each other. On one side write all the male pronouns he, him, his,.

In the other circle write all the female pronouns
She her her's

In the middle section where both circles overlap write plural non gender specific pronouns. We us, they, our, their's

He and she are very similar-sounding words used in very similar situations. Anyone learning a language is going to have problems like this. Mnemonic devices won't help because she no doubt knows the right situation to use the right word and just screws up in execution. It will correct itself over time, just keep giving her lots of situations where she can use the words and give her a look when she makes a mistake, so she knows to correct herself.

+1

Is it that big of a deal? I'm sure she knows the difference, it's just that she miss speaks. The same way some people get their left and rights mixed up.

Just remind her, or make a joke out of it.

Actually, I'd say it has more to do with the fact that, in spoken Korean, you very, very rarely hear "he" or "she" used. Similar to the troubles they have with articles. You see a similar issue with Chinese speakers, although for them it's more tied to the fact that in Mandarin "he" and "she" are the same word.

'she' is a longer word because women talk all the time. keep repeating that when a mistake is made. who's talking all the time, she is talking all the time. that's a great tip i invented just now. so good.
