I'm getting my criminal background check done back in the state of Oregon but I have to send them a US Money Order. I live just North of Seoul and I'm wondering where I can get a US Dollar Money Order? I know my bank does Western Union, but can you get a Western Union Money Order? |

I know Korea Exchange Bank can do them, and probably other banks as well. |

Most (all?) banks with a forex desk can issue a money order / cashiers check in US$ and drawn on a US bank. |

IBK bank does money orders too in US dollars.
Any Korean bank with a branch in America can help you with a money order in USD that they can cash in the US.
And you don't have to be a member of any bank for the service. |

I've had the best luck with this at KEB. The fee is minimal. I think that the fee is based on a percentage of how much your money order is for. My fee today was 15,000 won. Not bad when you think of how much they charge to transfer money from your account to another account in the States or another country. |

The problems with sending an international money order to the USA:
1. It takes 10-14 days to get to the USA (even took 8 days via express mail to California).
2. The bank in the USA has the right to hold the money order for up to 90 days. Even if the money order was purchased at a Citibank in South Korea and is being sent to a Citibank in the USA. |

I had to correct this, since "most banks" is not true. I went to three foreign exchange desks on Friday and they did NOT do money orders. Just Traveler's Checks fyi. Make sure that the bank & branch does them before you waste your time. They also have no problems lying about "talking on the phone" to another bank and "they have them." Just to get you out of their bank. Just a warning. The banks I went to included NH and KB. |
