Just curious to see if anyone here has taken the KLPT (Korean Language Proficiency Test).
I'm not close to the level of taking the test (I don't even live in Korea), but I was curious about why people took it, what they can gain from it, and how much studying they put into it.
Any comments are well appreciated. |

TOPIK seems to be more widely recognized. I would suggest taking that instead, unless you have some specific need to take the KLPT, of course.
Referring to TOPIK,
Why take it? To "upgrade my life".
What did I gain from it? A certificate.
How much work did I put into it?
Well, since I didn't study Korean to pass a test, this doesn't really apply. That said - 9 years of talking to bartenders, taxi drivers, and the Jehova's Witnesses that come to my door. |

Interesting...
So it seems like it's taken more for one's own satisfaction rather than using it for anything. |

I took it last year..but as was said above...I think the TOPIK is better.
Not only is the TOPIK more recognized..but it is broken into levels. When you take the KLPT..you either take the beginner (the most basic of basics) or you take the standard KLPT which included things from very basic to advanced. There is no way to take a "beginners" test/..or an "intermediate" test...the KLPT test starts at beginner all the way to advanced..which is strange because the KLPT is the test that has books in the store for beginner, medium, and advanced levels(not practice test but actually books for study)...but the test itself is all encompassing.
As for why? Well...in my case a score means a fat scholarship for my graduate studies^^ That being said...most universities will not even accept a KLPT score, but rather require a TOPIK score for admission/scholarship consideration |

Isn't TOPIK certification used for the F2 points system or is that TOPIK as well as the KLPT?
Either way taking a proficiency test can be used for more than self satisfaction these days. |
