I have an interview with Avalon coming up and I'm wondering how such hagwon chains decide on salary. My recruiter says the salary is between 2.1 to 2.3 million won a month; it is usually non-negotiable and decided on four factors: resume, essay (I have to write a 500 word essay), experience and interview. Based on my qualifications (i.e. BA, MA, TEFL Certificate) I'd like at least 2.2.
Do hagwon chains offer what you are worth, or do they try and offer you the least amount possible? Should I take a hard stance that I want 2.2? |

| They're a private business and exist to make a profit. Do the math. Does your potential employer have a scale that clearly outlines the requirements for each salary level? If they don't, then I wouldn't expect anything more than the minimum if you are lacking ESL experience in Korea. |
