It depends...

If the school has been very accomodating and sincerely ASK me to join them, I'd consider it. Otherwise, I'd do what I want.

Beat me to it.

Luckily my school's sports day is on a Thursday.

My school moved Sports Day from Monday to Saturday after parents complained they can't come and watch on Monday.

I had already agreed to referee a couple of things when I thought it would be on Monday. So when it switched they asked if I would come in Saturday. I said it would be ok if I could have Monday off instead. I expected some confusion from them by they were fine with that.

I am quite looking forward to seeing the kids actually do something outside. Their lunch break is so short I only ever see kids eat or brush their teeth.

I voted 'yes' but only because my kids will be there so I'll be hanging out as a parent and not as a teacher.

My school really doesn't know what to do with me (translate...the teachers are scared of English) so I've never been asked to do anything on Sports Day.

Our sports day activities are held on Children's Day.

Yes, I'm going, even though it's a (gasp) national holiday.

I do get the following 2 days off however, which makes for a lovely 4 day weekend. So yeah, it depends how the school treats you.

I went last year. It was fun. Free food. I didn't have any responsibilities like other Korean teachers so I got to walk around freely and cheer on the students.

The parents bring their kids delicious foods so I would bounce around like a bumble bee eating burgers, fried chicken, and other goodies.

My school's sports day is on a Saturday again this year. I'll go if asked, but it will be with my young children so I won't be doing anything but watching my kids and the events.

Groovy. What about your Thursday and Friday classes on May 6th and 7th? I'm only off if the whole school is not in session. Tomorrow, the whole school, except me and the officers such as the principal are going on field trip, but I have to come in anyhow. Even my 2 co-teachers are going so it's a quiet day. Classes canceled on Friday in preparation for mid term, but I have to come in as well even though I'm totally caught up.

I know nothing of a sports day, but I do know the kids need more play time. It's good for them rather than sitting 14 hours a day in classrooms.

I wouldn't go unless they paid me.

Employers will take a mile if you give them an inch.

I get 2 days off for Children's Day. Wednesday and Thursday.

If it were one time, I'd do it. next time, probably refuse.

I agree. Give an inch, take a mile, but when you have an F-2 visa, it doesn't worry me.

School is closed that Thursday and Friday. The whole school is off. They did it on purpose that way because we have to come in on Sports Day.

I figure fair is fair. I'd rather come in on the Saturday and have a long weekend the week after. Plus, I'm always busier on Thursdays and Fridays, they're good days to have off. And Saturday is only a half day anyway.
