If I buy an iPhone in Korea outright, can I then use it in Canada when I eventually move back?
Could be a silly question...but an American colleague of mine can't use her American iPhone here in Korea. Is she just mistaken? Is she doin' something wrong?
I want to get one, but...I'm not going to be here forever. With that being said, it'd be foolish to drop so much money on an iPhone only to have to sell it when I leave. |

iPhones in Korea, just like in the US, are locked. Therefore you'd have to get the phone unlocked before it could be used with another carrier. I'm not sure if there are physical differences in hardware, as both KTF and AT&T are GSM systems.
Unless I'm mistaken, you cannot get an iPhone without an F4 Visa with 2-years remaining on the visa or getting a Korean national to sign for the phone (i.e. the phone is under their name). This might have changed but that was the unofficial "rule" for the iPhone as of 2 months ago. |
