Whats up bros/mates/homies/ whatever else you'd like to be addressed as.

Here's the thing. I applied for that F-5 a few weeks back...they said it would take 3-4 months. I heard that if you got a couple kids running around..they can get that bad larry squared away in about a month. Is this true?

Also, once you get it in your hands, can you separate from the wife immediately? Can you stay here (if you wanted to or were crazy enough) forever with it as a single man and never deal with immigration again?

If you are going for your F-5, you must already have an F-2. Although I have an F-5, I really don't have any answers to your questions. You might want to join and ask at www.afek.info as that is where F-visas hang out.

Why do you want to leave? Don't you want to want to stay for the kiddies? But once you are an F-5 you won't lose it regardless of your relationship to your wife.

I do want to stay for the kids...thats pretty much the only reason. But I can't live with the wife. I'd just set up shop in a different house when the F-5 rolls in.

Another question... Has anyone had any success doing the single dad thing/part-time parent situation where you're separated from your Korean spouse in Korea. If so, how did it work out?

Yes, you can get it in about a month...I think I got mine in under 4 weeks (maybe closer to 3 weeks), but a friend got his from the same office and it took 2.5 months.

Yes, you can separate from your wife after you've the visa as the marriage to her will no longer be your tie/support (she won't be sponsoring you).

As for single fathers...I don't know any, but the folk over on AFEK will be a better pool to glean such information from than here...

I've got my F-5 but I'm female. Does that count?
Accoding to the "Let's live a happy life in Korea" hand book that I was given by immigration when I got my visa:

You can apply for an F-5 visa "if you experience a divorce or a separation that is your Korean spouses fault. If you raise Korean underage children, or support your Korean parents or family, or if your spouse has died or dissapeared while you were married, you can apply for the permanent residency (F-5) status with documentary evidence."

Basically if you move out of the house it is your fault the marriage broke down, unless you can prove your wife had an affair or something. If there is no way you and your wife cannot make things work then you will have a harder time getting an F-5.
BTW it took 7 months for mine to be processed but I think we were under the microscope as we'd been married for 8 years and no kids.

Yeah I made a deal with the ol' battle axe and made her go down to the immigration and setup that F-5 and after that we'd go our separate ways...so hopefully everything will go smooth.
