Hi everyone!
Forgive me if this is a rather dense post... any of your thoughts/ experiences would be much appreciated!

My financee and I are relocating to Seoul in early August. So far we have an offer from a friend who manages a hagwon in Gangnam, and applications pending with EPIK/SMOE.
We are leaning towards working in the hagwon, because it seems legitimate, and because they are offering us joint housing. EPIK/SMOE apparently will not give us joint housing because we are not yet married, and have offered instead that we share single housing while one of us commutes to school & receives a housing allowance. Of course this would mean an extra 400,000/month, but given that EPIK/SMOE are so luck of the draw, this just seems like a lot of extra variables... right? Hagwon it is...?
The only caveat to our hagwon plan is that, while the place seems stable, with short hours, adequate accommodation, small classes etc., the pay is pretty marginal: 30hr/wk at 2.0-2.1m.

This brings me to my main questions: what are the options for obtaining extra, legal work in Seoul? We would have free mornings, so some early classes or Saturday work would be great. Does anyone have experience working 2 jobs with a similar schedule? Do morning-only jobs even exist?
It seems like the legality of this would be largely dependent on one's employment contract, but is this something to be brought up while negotiating a contract, or will the school freak out at any mention of side work?

I know there are a lot of questions here, so thank you so much for your thoughts on all of this!

Your employer can allow you to work a 2nd job, but most hagwons would definitely say no to that...it would probably depend on how much pull your friend has there...sounds like not much if the pay is so bad.

You can definitely get a hagwon job paying 2.4 million with a 2 bedroom apartment, even without experience. Also, tell your school that you'd like to make more money and they will find ways to utilize you...you can usually do privates on-site....sure, you don't make as much per hour, but it's right there after your regular classes so you don't lose the commute time and it's legal.

EPIK/SMOE is great for couples, and that extra 400k would be icing on the cake! ;D

Public is the way to go!
