Hullo All,

Quick question - does anyone know if when you re-sign with EPIK for another year if you have to go through the medical exam and HIV test rigamarole again?

Cheers!

Yes. Usually you'll get your testing done once your next contract starts, though I've known some people to get tested in January of the next year.

In order to re-sign, (In particular if it is with the same school) one of the forms you have to take to Immigration with you is the medical exam.

I just had to for renewal at the same public school. Love having to have an x-ray to the chest every year. Mmm cancerific.

I've heard that you may have to take a second drug test when you get back from home leave. We're THAT untrustworthy. Didn't you know?

I had to do the same form, but a week or so later was called early in the morning to be made aware of the fact that I had a test that day. 10 minutes later and I'd have had breakfast and wouldn't have been able to go.

You may still need your medical.

I renewed 2 months ago with EPIK and didn't have to do any medical stuff for the renewal - not a medical or a self evaluation or anything.

If you renew, you'll have to do a medical eventually. The school will tell you when they want one done. On two occasions, my contract renewed in September and the school didn't get around to asking for a medical until December, when I went down to the local hospital with a young Korean teacher who also was required to do a medical.

Last year when I renewed, I had the new medical done prior to leaving for the two week vacation. In Ulsan, they required all those re-signing to do the same thing.

I renewed my GEPIK contract last week. All I needed was my new contract, passport, ARC card and 80,000 won (for new visa and multiple re-entry). All other documents the school should provide for you.

I didn't have to take the medical test again, but I was told that you could call the hospital and get your previous results from the hospital if they were required.

Overall, it was just filing the paperwork, I was in and out of immigration in 20 minutes.

Immigration has never asked me to do an additional medical. However my school has me, as well as all Korean teachers, do them annually.

In Ulsan, we (people re-signing) were told to which hospital we should go and given a parameter of dates. If I remember correctly, the cost was 40,000 won.
