Hey fullaz! So I'm starting a job on the 17th on the South Coast but am coming over a week early to have a look around Seoul. I have been scanning the threads on here to get an idea of whats some good things to see and do when in Seoul and was wondering if anyone had any input? I'll be round from the 10th to 15th ish, and I'm not fussy about activities etc (I am a 23 year old male so somethings may not appeal as much!) so anything you think is worth doing don't hesitate to mention!!! Cheers guys!

Insadong is really nice... the tea shops have good drinks and atmosphere, there are some cute art galleries, good traditional and vegetarian restaurants, and the architecture is lovely... might want to go there during the week, though, as it gets packed during the weekends.

Apart from the fact that you are 23y.o. - (and probably freah out of Univ and not fussy about activities) we really don't know what you like doing or what you want to get out of your week in Seoul.

It really depends on what you want to do.

PLAN A - If you want to experience Korea (culture, customs, food, etc) then -

day 1 Korean Folk Village, Hwansung fortress
day 2 Namsan Tower + Insadong + Myeongdong
day 3 Cheonggyecheon Stream + Gyeongbuk Palace + changing of the guards + Namdaemun market
day 5 USO DMZ tour,
day 6 the War Memorial Museum, Korean museum
day 7 Itaewon, shopping + party

PLAN B - If you just want to have "fun" and waste money then -

day 1 Itaewon party
day 2 Hongdae party
day 3 Gangnam Party
day 4 Konkook university station party
day 5 Sincheon station party
day 6 Hongdae party
day 7 Itaewon party

I recommend PLAN A

I also recommend this plan although I might replace the day 7 Itaewon trip with something else. Itaewon was fun the first time I went. There are many interesting people to meet from all over the world. But when you get down to its essentials, Itaewon is dirty and relatively violent compared to the rest of Korea.

Personally I would recommend Hongdae. It's an artsy college town and plenty of foreigners hang out there, too. Most Koreans I've met there also happen to speak English. It's a really cool place.

Whao thanks guys. I will definately use your guide Forever! Ive had 2 years out of uni working at a government department and have squeezed in a good whack of travelling in that time. Definately dont wanna spend the week on a bender full of mindblanks and unneccessary alcohol related purchases but would like to see the side of Seoul everyone says you cant live without (which I will be subsequently living without for the rest of the year). I think I will try and do pretty much everything on that list (A), time providing!
Thanks again for the help guys!!! Very Happy

Don't forget about Leeum in Itaewon though. I think the area is certainly worth checking out for a bit.
Day 6 might be rough on any but the most-dedicated museum goer, though. Those are essentially the two museums in Seoul that take the longest to get through. Might be a bit draining. You could do War Memorial first, then pop over to Itaewon, explore a bit and go to Leeum. Do National Museum and shopping the next day. Or maybe you'd like to go to Yeouido, too. Rent a bike and go along the Han for a while.

Try to get off the main drag. You can find some small alleyways the places here are really cool. They tend to sell the same kind of Anju but much cheaper. I really had a great time at that place that sells Makoli in wash basins. The place has so much character. Don't remember the name.
