I have lived outside Seoul a good bit. But even after 5 months only in Seoul a trip outside the city shows you something. Suddenly it's a good bit more Korean. And the air tends to be cleaner, depending of course. And the looks from the locals become that much more obvious. But I would say so does the friendliness from strangers. Though I feel so foreign at times, I believe most Koreans are warm and wish me well, and perhaps can sympathize with my situation.

i love leaving seoul on weekends and try to whenever possible. if i didn't have a good job and opportunities going here, i would move out in a heartbeat. although seoul has a lot to offer, the smaller towns have so much character and i, too, notice that treatment is different from locals. taxi drivers especially.

I haven't even been to Seoul yet. Then again I've only been in Korea for six weeks. I've got to get my bum out of Daegu one day (I would use the 'a' word but I don't want to get beeped).

In two years I've been out of Seoul 3 times. 2 of those time were to Incheon and Suwon so I don't know if that even counts. My wonjongnim took everyone to Jeju-Do once. So thats about all the travel experience within Korea I have. I do have a desire to leave the city but actually doing so would require me to not party in Shinchon all night Saturday.

My first reaction to this thread was, "What kind of losers never leave Seoul?" Then I realized that when I lived in Seoul, I almost never left either.

I went to Gangneung twice, the DMZ once and spent one weekend in Gwangju checking out my current school before I signed my contract. I think that was it. I had too much to do IN Seoul to make the trek out very often.

Now that I'm out of Seoul, though, I hate going back. In fact, I have to go tomorrow and I'm dreading it: the 4 hour bus ride, the interminable subway rides, the crush of 14 million people, the dirt and trash and vomit in the streets. Ick. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

I have a friend who has been in Korea for 4 years, and has never been out of the Seoul Kyeoggi-do area. He doesn't seem to show any interest in travelling around at all. Personally I would rather be dead than live in the same place, do the same things, eat the same food, same,same,same,same,same,same,same,same,same,same,same,same,

I have left Seoul five times in almost five years. I have left the country for vacation the same amount

I live just out of seoul and very rarely travel out of gyeonggi. It takes ages to get anywhere and once you've seen gyeongbok palace you've seen all the palaces in korea.

This board is so Seoul heavy it isn't funny.

I'm suprised if anyone in Seoul ventures out at all.

Lived outside of Seoul for nearly 2 years total. Occasionally (very occasionally) I head out.

In general, it's way better in Seoul than out.

Way better IN Seoul than OUT of Seoul.

Outside of Seoul, I've been to Daejeon, Daegu, Busan, Andong, Gimhae, GwangJu, GyeongJu, JinJu, Cheonnan, Ansan, Sokcho, Tongyeong, Seosan, JeJu, and its all pretty much the exact same thing.

The only big difference is outside of Seoul, the boring dull bars and clubs seem to multiply to unbelievable proportions, as do the older generation Koreans.

A large proportion of young Koreans flock to universities in Seoul from all around Korea.. many of them live on their own (and outside of the parents domain), and on and on and on. Its A LOT more fun up here.

Yet for reasons unknown, I still like to get out of Seoul from time to time.
