Initial plans where to hit Thailand or Boracay for a week in July. Now I have heard its rainy season in Boracay and well don't want to be hitting Thailand at the moment due to the current political climate.
Was thinking somewhere like Taiwan ? Just looking for somewhere to chill near a beach , do some water sports , have a few beers and meet a few nice girls. Don't want to be anywhere near a city.
Any of the more seasoned travelers have any suggestions ?
Not looking to spend major bucks either.
Peace ! |

I similarly misunderstood what was going on last year until an expat living there briefed me on the day to day life in Thailand: NO WORRIES! "Mai pen rai." Thai politics does not affect tourism as the touristy areas are full of Thais which are are keenly aware which side of their roti is buttered.
I chose to overcome my prejudice and listen to the wisdom of one of the many foreigners living in that country and went there for an entire month last fall not long after the airport incident and guess what? LIFE GOES ON. Smiles toward tourists continue and dollars continue to pour into Thailand.
Seriously, just go about your touristy sites and don't watch the news. You won't even notice anything about politics. It's very stable and will continue to do so as long as the King is so revered. All petty political bickering and grandstaging is just that, petty and beside the point. |

Why don't you try Sri Lanka? Great beaches, war is over and things are super cheap! |

Anything south of the equator will not be in their rainy season...And my friend went to Thailand last year in July and only had one day with rain. |

If you want to avoid Bangkok, you can fly to Kuala Lumpur, then to Ko Samui. Then go to Ko Phangan if you want to party or Ko Tao if you want to relax and dive. No need to avoid Thailand because of this mess...just avoid parts of Bangkok. |

I'm sure most of that is true. But what about the biggest mall in Bangkok just being set fire to, and grenaded very recently? I mean yea, tourists are still going there, and there are expats living there, but it's still a sketchy situation none the less. I was planning on going there too, and still want to, but i might have to hold off... we'll see. |
