Hi

I worked for 2 hagwons in Korea. One hagwon did not pay me my pension. I did not know it because they gave me payslips which showed deductions. When I got a job in another hagwon, that hagwon did not know how to register me for pension and medical insurances. I had to teach my boss what to do. When I asked the director how long her school was operating, she said: 7 years. I went to National Pension Centre to check my pension in order to get a refund from the previous school, found out that I was never registered and had no pension money. The new school cheated on Pension Centre and reported my salary to be below normal, which means the school paid less taxes. Also, this school told me that I should pay 50% rent for my apartment. I refused and the boss agreed to it as long as I promised to be a good teacher. The fact is, rent was never in the contract. Nobody I met paid rent. The director said: "It is Incheon rules." My apartment was unfurnished, no bed, no washing machine, no T.V. and no closet. Yet, I was promised all this during the phone interview and contract. I would like to advise people about this: Employment Insurance is optional. I consulted legal help in regard to this, so if you don't want to pay it, don't let your boss force you to pay it by saying: "It is compulsory, other hagwons do the same."
