Last night in a drunken state I tried to buy some shoes and a totes cute bag on Gmarket. I got my account set up no hassle, my information and address input, and was all set to give them my cc #. I want to use my Korean card which they accept and all that good stuff, but their site uses a special application which is not in English like the rest of their site. I can't copy and paste to Google translate as it's in the app. and not regular text.
I know, I suck, I can't read Korean and I've been here too long to have an excuse. Blah blah blah.
The point is, I just want to be able to get drunk and buy shoes in my underwear at 2 am. Is this so wrong?
Here is a link to what the screen looks like. http://tinypic.com/r/fn5mb9/5
If it helps, it's a Woori card (but that's all I'm sayin') Thanks! |

| I had that problem too, except for the drunken shoes part, I ended up having to do a either a gaccount bank transfer or use paypal. Never figured out how to do the credit card. |

Since you have time to do shoe shopping at two in the morning, you undoubtedly have a bit of time to learn this.
I'm not trying to be a wiseguy, but you could learn how to read Korean in, like, literally five hours or less. And this short amount of studying will garner hundreds of hours of enhanced communication ability, as you'll be able to practice it every time you leave your house. |

| Another option is to just pay with a bank transfer. I use G-market all the time but I never use my card because of the same problems you're having. But you can make a deposit account on the G-market site and when you buy something, you just transfer money to that account from an ATM to pay for what you bought. You might need some help to set up that deposit account, but once it's set up, it's really easy to use. You just go to any ATM, select "transfer" select the bank you used when you set up the account, and enter the account number and the amount of money to transfer. Happy Shopping. |

I am being honest that I will likely continue procrastinating learning basic Korean. I don't know if I will stay in Korea once my contract is up so I may only be here a couple more months anyway. I know, it's no excuse. I am lazy.
However, if someone else has the knowledge I lack and shares it with me, I would greatly appreciate it. After all, I would do the same for you if I was knowledgeable in an area and you required assistance. It's called helping and it's an important part of being a member of a community. |

| I have actually tried using my card for gmarket and it will not work. I wen't to the bank and even had my mentor teacher try and see if it would work. No go, atleast with Noghyups ATM card. The best way to do it is to either set up an account that you can transfer money into to pay for goods or do a bank to bank transfer. If anyone has figured out how to get their card to work I would love to hear how. |

Korean online shopping truly sucks when it comes to paying for items. Most of the time I cannot directly pay with my check card. I hate all these crappy security programs that need to be installed; which for the majority of the time do not install or crashes my IE.
Then, I am left with needing to use a bank transfer, which means logging into my online banking via more crappy security programs and more time spent from getting from the log in page to actually transferring the goddamn money.
Korean internet is fast but its slowed down with the amount of excrement that Korean companies force you to install to use their buggy services. |

| The killer is that up until two months ago, my credit card did work. Then a month ago, it wouldn't work. I argued with them through email repeatedly to no avail. Guess they always need some reason to keep whitey down! |

As far as I know Korean cards don't work online unless you have an up to date yessign certificate (은행/신용 공인인증서). I shop online all the time and it's very easy once you have the certificate. It's just a matter of entering your card number and the password for the certificate.
When I do online banking I use the same certificate to login. If you don't have it I think you can either get it at the bank or by calling your card company. Oh - and I think you have to renew it yearly or every 2 years, which can be done online. This may be why some of your cards used to work but don't anymore.
Good luck. |

| Paying with Paypal and a foreign Visa/MC doesn't seem to need certificates and works with other browsers besides IE. |

| I do mine through bank transfer. It's pretty simple but it does mean going online for online banking or hitting up an ATM. |

I HAVE THE ANSWER
You can not buy things on Gmarket with your Bank card if you use English Windows, which is pretty much 99.9% of English-speaking foreigners.
That window you got stuck on? Yes I got stuck there too. There is no way to get past it (or read it) and as other posters here have testified, the only way is to just send the money through your online banking account (the option to send money is 이체)
Its f***ing annoying and although I really like the speed of Korea's internet, their websites (and the fact that they're locked into internet explorer) are like something out of the dark ages of the internet 10 years ago. |

Gmarket accepts Paypal if you already have a card synched up to that.
Otherwise, I always used to pay by bank transfer. On the payment screen choose private funds transfer and the select from the list of banks. Copy down the account number and run out to an ATM. The account name should be G마켓 or something like that. |
