The Namdaemun shops don't do rentals. Think of them as your Ritz/Wolf cameras back in the 'States.

If you're looking for rentals, serious equipment (new and used), film and labs then you'll have to go to Chungmuro. Leave Chungmuro station to the west and take a right (north) one block from the station. You'll find a few small streets dedicated to photographic professionals.

exit the number 4 train and look for the elevator. when you come off the elevator, cross that street you are in front of and keep walking straight; first right turn and start meandering through there, go left and then right or so, but you will see the gallery posters and shops.

actually, when you come off the elevator, the building directly across the street and upstairs is a Macstore service center and also an office of Magnum Korea.

ask anyone around where is photopia, great place to have film processed, they have a board with regular postings, someone there can help you for sure.

I've rented lenses from this place before:

http://www.slrrent.com/index_home.php

They have a store in Gangnam and one in Hapjeong. It was easy enough to rent as a foreigner. You need to leave some form of ID with them and they give it back to you when you return the equipment.

Oh yeah...if you going to use the company I posted above, you may want to call and check which of their stores has the specific equipment you are after. I once went to the Hapjeong store only to find out that the lens I wanted was only available at the Gangnam store.

Around chungmuro, all the shops assured me they don't rent at all...

Only after I bargained for a ridiculous price point($50 for a speedlite for 1 day plus leaving $300 at the counter as insurance!) did one shop agree too it.

I'll try out the gangnam store.

You should..they seem to be priced between 10,000 and 30,000 per day depending on the model. I didn't have to leave a deposit with them.
