So, I want to add 1 song to my iphone. It took 30 minutes. I absolutely hate itunes. I don't know why Apple doesn't do anything about Itunes.
Here's why it took 30 minutes. Plug in iphone. Launch Itunes and Itunes needs to update. That takes a few minutes and then Itunes NEEDS a reboot. Why? only a handful of Windows Updates require reboots, but every single Itunes update requires a reboot.
So, I reboot my computer. Launch Itunes again and now its gotta sync with my iphone. While syncing its gotta backup my iphone. After backing up the iphone its gotta copy all my new apps to Itunes.
Finally, 30 minutes later I can finally drag 1 song from my itunes library to my iphone. |

Took me 8 hours one time to add some Language MP3's to my IPod. I was travelling and wanted to learn some of the local language. But since I wasn't at home with my "synced" computer, it turned into a total nightmare. When that IPod finally broke and I got a cowon, I was in heaven. Drag and drop, baby, drag and drop! |

Drag and drop rules.
I recently downloaded the latest edition of my favorite British radio show, God's Jukebox, from thebox.bz in about 45 seconds, then had it on my Cowon S9 20 seconds later. 150mb, 3-hour radio show downloaded and on my MP3 player in about 70 seconds.
Thank you very much. |

That's because it backed up. The backups can take forever depending on the apps. Just click the X beside the backing up notice, sync takes just a moment.
Some apps do weird things that cause massively long backups. App sniper for example caches icons. For some odd reason it causes 8 hour backups. they included a button to purge the cache. Backup drops from 8 hours to 2 minutes. |

30 minutes to add one song is an exception, obviously.
However, there are reasons to favor iTunes over drag-and-drop, though the drag-and-droppers don't like to admit the many benefits iTunes has, likely because they've never used iTunes in conjunction with an iPod.
1. While it may take a bit longer to load songs while using iTunes, an iPod will start up instantly, whereas my previous mp3 player would take 20-30 seconds to start after loading/deleting any songs because the device detected changes and had to search for media.
2. Auto-bookmarking. I listen to a ton of podcasts. I switch between podcasts often. I start and stop my iPod all the time. I never, ever, have to bookmark my place. In anything. Not possible in any of my previous drag-and-drop mp3 player, and it would be news to me if that was a feature drag-and-drop players have now.
3. Synching. The iPod/iTunes symbiosis means I don't ever have to remember what podcasts I've listened to, because they're automatically removed and new ones are added. Now, I know there workarounds to add podcasts automatically, but do drag-and-drop mp3 players keep track of what's new and what's not?
4. Zero-clicks. I can literally connect the iPod to my computer and walk away, when I come back, new stuff is loaded onto it. Call that a hassle if you must, but it seems pretty convenient to me. |

Cancel the back up, cancel the syncing.
I can drag n' drop music into my iPhone too. Just make a playlist first. |
