Hi. This relates to EPIK and public schools. I applied direct to EPIK and also direct to a local POE. Just to clarify things, the application forms were pretty much identical except the EPIK one had a few more questions.
After several weeks of waiting EPIK have finally given me an interview day and time, but I have also been contacted by the local POE who want to schedule an interview a couple of days later.
So I'm wondering if I can/should just do both interviews, or if I have essentially applied for the same job twice.
The local POE is basically my first choice on my EPIK form, but can I interview with them after already having had an interview with EPIK? Who is ultimately in charge?
Also, what happens if I fail the EPIK interview, could I still do the local POE interview, or would my details already be flagged in the system?
Any help/advice would be great as I'm a bit confused. |

It's my understanding that some POEs hire independently, so you could end up working at a school that does not hire through EPIK. Are you sure this POE is covered by EPIK?
I'm at a PS, but it is through the usual govt agencies, not independent. There are people on here with a lot more knowledge on this than me, though. Maybe they'll chime in. Are you doing this through a recruiter, or directly (ie, website?). The hiring practices change so much each semester I can't keep up. If it were me, I think I would just do both! |

Do both.
A P(rovincial) O(ffice) of E(ducation) can hire independently but it will still be covered under the auspices of EPIK (with a few notable exceptions).
Are you sure it was the POE you were talking to? It may also be a PS trying an independent hire or a city education office (like Gangnam or Hannam/Gwangju) rather than a POE.
If it was a PS or city OE rather than the POE then you can still do both (cover all your bases) but you will definitely be under the auspices of one of the POEs or EPIK.

Hi, I'm back.
Thanks for the replies. I'm quite sure that the POE is operating under EPIK as the application form was basically the same (layout, questions, colour [I should start writing color] etc.) Also on the website links at the bottom there was a link to EPIK. So logically speaking the must be connected to EPIK, right?
So if this POE is operating under EPIK, regardless of whether or not I pass the EPIK interview (which I've already had), would I be able to do the local POE interview too.
Secondly if I was to pass both, would I be best to go direct to the POE, as won't EPIK just forward my stuff there anyway?
Oh, I'm not using a recruiter, so applied direct in both cases. I figured, rightly or wrongly, that applying direct might give me a slightly better chance in the fact that I won't cost as much to hire (no recruiter fees). Also I didn't see the advantage of using a recruiter in most cases as it/they seemed like just another time-consuming filter to get through whilst giving little to no benefits. |
