My situation is this:
I got a job in Hong Kong so earlier this month I gave my two month notice at the hagwon I work at. I'm now just trying to tie up the loose and get through the work days as quickly as possible. However, I do have to go after them for my pension money since (like many others in Korea) I was registered as an Independent Contractor and thus had no deductions being made from my pay nor were contributions being made by my boss. I have all the proof needed (paystubs, all the contracts I signed with them, bankbooks) to get my pension account set up and contribute my half (thanks to previous threads here and those contributors on them, you really helped me out ). My question is about timing.
It seems the consensus on the message board here and friends I've talked to is that the best thing to do is wait until I finish the contract and then go to the Pension Office and after setting up the account and paying my half, they'll go after my bosses for their half. That seems fine but once I've stopped working couldn't the Pension Office deny my claim since I'm not working anymore? My other question is that I will only be in Canada less than a month before going off to Hong Kong. Does the pension account have to be open a minimum amount of time before I can make a claim for the lump sum refund?
Thanks for the help! |
