Anybody have any good advice about how to get into uni teaching? Also maybe pros and cons. I'm teaching at elementary public school now. Don't have any certificates. Just my Bachelor's.
You can link me to older posts. Maybe I just haven't been back far enough. |

Ahh, it's good to post here once again; it's been a long time. Now I'll try my best to answer your question:
If you are interested in uni teaching and if you have a BA only, your chances of getting into uni are quite slim, unless you've had a few years' experience teaching in Korea and have taught adults in the past. In Seoul and in many other major cities it is very hard to land uni work without at least an MA. If you don't mind living away from the city for a while there are unis or even technical colleges that ask for a native speaker with a BA. I hope this helps. |

How long have you been working in Korea?
Do you want to spend a few years teaching?
Would you be willing to do a TESOL certificate/masters?
Where would you be willing to work in Korea?
Like the other poster said, if you are looking for university jobs in Seoul/Busan (the major cities) it will be almost impossible for you to get into a university job.
If you are willing to work in a country area university you might have some luck of getting a job there. But do realize that many don't pay well (country universities) compared to many of the universities in cities.
My example: 3 years elementary school teaching, 1 year hogwan. Graduate TESOL certificate (not on-line or 120 hours certificate). MA TESOL (studying). Now, working at a university in the country. Took a big pay cut. Have been here for one year and now applying for jobs back in the major cities.
Hope that gives you an idea of what situation are in. |
