edit: After a lot of difficulty and many unanswered phone calls to the embassy, I've finally gotten my answer. It's going to take approx. 4 days to get it to me, which is great. Looks like I'm going to be able to go.
Pardon me if this is a question that's easily searchable but I've tried searching and it will not load the page. This is urgent to me, so I really need some information.
This will be my first trip to Asia and I am not at all familiar with how much of this stuff works. Please excuse my ignorance to all this.
Here's my deal. I have a study abroad trip to Korea for one month. Classes begin June 20th and I have already been accepted to Kyungpook National University in Daegu. My international office at my school here in the US has basically told me that I was finished and only needed to purchase my plane ticket now. My university in the US has been extremely bad at giving me accurate information for the things that I need to complete before departure because, frankly, they very rarely send anyone to Korea. Because of the poor information they have been providing me, I have been under the impression that a visa is just a plain "visa." Little did I know that there are several different types of visas.
This is my problem. I've been thinking that I would not require a visa because I read online that US citizens do not require a visa for stays of less than 90 days. Well, today I discovered that I DO need a visa because I'll be a student. I'll need a D-2 Student Visa for Korea (which I've had a terrible time finding accurate information about. Every website I check gives me different details about this).
This means that I need to get this thing in less than 20 days. Is this remotely possible or am I out of luck? I plan on calling the Korean Embassy in Washington, DC in the morning to try to sort this out. |
