How much are we talking about here?

For a 2nd-hand Peugout 2 or 3 series/ BMW 3-series/Audi, say 2-3 years old.

Also, guessing insurance is high too???

Cheers.

Having sold my Kia Soul, i'm in market for a BMW. It's the olny one i've researched - not sure about the others.

2nd hand it will cost around 5-8 million. Under 5 million is pretty mush rubbish from what i've seen - also they are all Korean cars. Old 3 series are around 5 mill - they seem in decent shape and should last well, however if it breaks you will pay a heck of a lot. Insurance should be really high as it is a 2nd hand car.

Hope this helps - keep us updated!!!

I'm looking at buying an avante, SM5 or BMW 3series. Not if I want to pay the extra for the BM.

There's a big used imported car dealer behind the Costco at Yangjae.......be prepared for shocking prices.

The Korean car market has been very carefully set up so that it's by far the best option to buy only new cars and only new Korean cars..........that's how Hyundai-Kia and Samsung like it so that's how it is.

Big difference in price?

Cheers

A new Honda Civic 2.0 (mid-range model) is around 35 mill in Korea.

But then you could get a new Sonata for as little as 25 mill and it's probably a higher spec car than the Civic.

The place in Yangjae that one of the previous posters referred to is www.bobaedream.co.kr.

For 35 million you can get a late model (06-07) 3-series or Lexus IS (if you're into that).

The prices are definitely inflated though; last year a friend bought an '08 5-series off the site and ended up paying 2 million above the listed price. I called to inquire about a car last summer and there was also actually a premium.

Also, a lot of the luxury cars on the site are leased cars (meaning you would need to takeover). If you want to pay cash, look for the words '현금' in the title.

yeah, I paid full for my Kia - 18 mill and it came with all available extras. If you are going new then you have enough money - new is better i'd say because the chance of a breakdown and expensive repair is greatly reduced.

Kia are making great cars nowadays and their prices new are really good. You get more for your buck with a Kia than with a Hyundai because Hyundai are so desired by Koreans.

A fully-loaded Kia Carens LPG, after all taxes and charges, is only around 20 mill.......that's a lot of car and options for 5 mill less than the absolute base model Sonata.

When is the Free Trade Agreement with Europe, etc., going into effect.

That should substantially drop the cost of new import cars as they should be free of import duties.

Very true, but I think we know that's not happening here.

Have any of you actually owned a BMW? Or any German car for that matter? Taking cost of ownership into account, I would rather own a Korean car any day. Modern German automobiles are utter shit when it comes to reliability, and the repair costs are ludicrous. Modern Korean cars are incredibly reliable on the other hand. We no longer live in the late 80's-early 90's. Cars have changed nowadays.

Whoever mentioned the SM5, my gf has a new one, and aside from the incredibly boring styling, it's a really nice car. Very quiet and comfortable, and hers has all the bells and whistles. Power, heated, memory seats, GPS, bluetooth and a slew of other stuff I haven't even noticed. It's also quite roomy and rides very well. It doesn't handle like a BMW obviously, since it's a FWD with suspension designed for comfort, but I really can't see a reason to own a sporty car in one of the most congested cities in the world.

IS-F, do you own an IS-F or are you just a fan? Have you ever seen one in Korea?

I asked Lexus Korea and they said that they don't sell it, but I've heard rumors of guys importing them in from Japan. Given how expensive IS-Fs are in Japan, importing them into Korea must be hellaciously expensive. But if I were an army guy, that's one car I would import in on Uncle Sam's dime. Since it sells for $60,000 in the U.S., and almost double that in Japan, you could drive it around and sell it used in Korea and still make a mint.

I'm just a fan. I have a 2007 IS250 which I want to get rid of soon. I never saw an IS-F in Korea but I would give up my left nut for one. 450+HP in a car that size = RAW POWER.

The thing is, I think it's best to wait for the new model IS to come out. It's been 4 years already with the current model so you know it's time is up.

Yeah. You can use that RAW POWER when you're sitting in traffic while the rest of us paid a chunnun to ride the bus.

Haters gonna hate.

edit: fixed grammar (I know, seriously?)
