I've been done and home in the US for 2 months and 3 days. I still have yet to receive my pension reimbursement from Korea. Is this strange? |

I went to the pension office in Busan myself. They spoke English very well and were very helpful.
I had worked at a public school one of my four years in Busan. How is that relevant? |

Because hagwons often don't contribute their share or even let you know they are taking your share.
Did you give them a bank account to send the money to? Have they tried? |

It happened to me after my first year in Korea. I had my gf contact the pension office and they said they were waiting for my former employer to confirm that I had left Korea. Apparently, after you file for your pension refund, they contact your last employer to confirm you have left. They wait for a confirmation from them before releasing your refund. I contacted my old employer about it and then 2 weeks later I got my refund. |

This has been a topic that has been discussed numerous times on this forum, but there has never been an answer given. I agree with the other posters that have claimed the only depatment that needs to contact the pension office is immigration office. Then why is it that the immigration office needs to contact your school to have the funds sent? If this is the case I guess I will have to stay on top of my school before I leave. |

Call the pension office via skype and your fromer education office. Ask them what's going on. |

I'm not saying this is going to happen to you but, . . . the last time I was in Korea my employer (a university) took me through the process of getting a pension refund. I was told it would be sent to my Western bank account after I left the country. I never saw it and my employer became persona non grata after I attempted to contact them for assistance. Just another on the list of problems I had in that country.

Zippy left Busan in the middle of December and the pension office told him it would take about two months. It took two and a half months, March 3rd the deposit showed up in his account. Then a week later, on the 10th, another deposit showed up from his first job that he had worked for six months. Each wire transfer cost $20 on this end. |

I have a friend who worked for EPIK who is still waiting for her pension. I got mine fairly quickly (possibly because I got them to deposit it into my Korean account) but I'm still waiting for my exit allowance. STILL waiting for my exit allowance. 2.5 months after I finished my contract. Ughh. |

Yeah, pension to your Korean bank account can take as little as 3 days. Payment to your overseas account can take 6-8 weeks. The reason is that you want to have that last pension payment in your account, so the accounting needs to be done a little bit after your contract is finished. |

Did you give a Korean bank account .....
My experience is that they do not send the money abroad. I might be wrong. |
