Got a pretty good deal for this drive at Costco IMO
150K won for a 500 GB USB drive.

I use it on my mac (with windows OS) and no problem.
Take it to school, and...

click
click
click

After living through 3 drives which have failed (also hearing that same click) it gets me pretty angry. This drive is less than two months old and already it is making noise. Mad

Any advice?

i also bought a WD drive from costco, a 1TB my book elite. within 2 months, i was getting cyclis redundancy checks. emailed WD, said i could take it to one of their sellers in yongsan and get it replaced. took about 2 minutes to get a new one, just had to write down my name and phone number. didnt even look for proof of purchase. if you're gonna go down that route, let me know and i'll try to give you directions

The clicking could be due to the computer's USB port not providing enough power to the hard drive.

I had the same problem when I plugged my hard drive into my USB hub, as opposed to directly into the USB port in the back of the computer.

Some USB ports are powered, some are not. Also, I believe the newer Macbooks and Laptops have high powered USB ports. For example, the Ipad will not charge via usb cable unless it is plugged into a comptuer with a high powered USB port.

That is probably why your macbook has no problem with it, but your school computer does. Most 2.5" hard drives do not have an extra power adapter. I believe almost all 3 1/4" hard drives have a power adapter because the USB port does not provide enough power to use it.
