When researching a grammar question, do you first go to:
the internet

An interesting follow up question might be: Do you only use internet sources that are also published in print?

English Club (http://www.englishclub.com/grammar/) is pretty good on the basics. Otherwise, you can usually find good resources on google, same as with everything else.

I used to use grammar reference books when I started out.

The Chicago Manual of Style is industry standard as a basis for publishing houses in the US. Some houses change a few rules, but it's the norm. I stick with that. Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 11th edition is the standard on spelling. There's a $25 app for that on itunes (the same price as the book, but easier to carry around). I wish there was one for CMoS!
