I was quoted prices for getting Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis here in the US where I currently doing have insurance, total it will cost about $650.
-Does anyone know if we are able to get the shots in Korea and how much they could possibly be?
-I know that we get blood tests and health checks once we arrive in Korea, do you think we can just get them done there? Even though J.E is done in two doses?
-Also, I have already been vaccinated for Hep B, are we able to get vaccinated for Hep A and C in Korea at a later date just to be on the safe side? I know that Hep is very prevalent in Asian countries. Does anyone seem to know the cost of this as well?
Thank you sooooo much!! |

Typhoid and JE aren't really necessary but if you want them you can get them here for less than 50k.
There is NO hep-C vaccination. Yes, you can get hep-A here. Again, less than 50k.

Definitely recommend the Hep A vaccine. Hep A is very easily spread here given the penchant for sharing food. It doesn't have the bite of Hep B, but if you can get a shot, why not protect yourself?
A further word to the wise, don't listen to any doctors back home that recommend this vaccine, that vaccine, or malaria pill. Most of the GPs back home don't know anything about infectious disease in Asia. |

I find it fitting that David Lee Roth is telling us about infectious diseases, I'm sure with all the groupies, he knows much. |

This is what I told you before.
JE is the most obnoxiously expensive vaccine available. But JE is also one of the more deadly ... issues.. you will encounter in Korea.
It starts like a cold. By that point, you're infected. It's viral, so there's no treatment. It attacks the brain. It's a slow death. A lousy $650 was worth it to me. Is it worth it to you? |

unless you're in the boondocks, don't get JE vaccine. I do recommend the typhoid, however. The typhoid vaccine takes 14 days to a month to kick-in, so you may want to get it in the U.S.
I was told my typhoid vaccine would be 91 dollars, plus a 50 dollar fee for giving me the shot - insane. I will just wait until i am in country.
I did, however, get a HEP A vaccine at a local clinic for 10 dollars.. though, with HEP A, you need 2 shots six months apart.
I think the vaccine you most need is HEP A, B. |
