But quite frankly, frankly speaking, it doesn't bother me. |

Why post it if it does not bother you? Maybe it does subconsciously? |

Well, that is a great question. What does bother me is when the little geniuses, bless their genius hearts, finish the pesky puzzles before me. And, frankly speaking, quite frankly, terrorism and world hunger also bother me. |

The kids love word search puzzles and so do I. I give them really hard ones and tell them to work on them in teams. They usually take 20-30 minutes to finish. |

Ditto to the team approach. When I use them (a rare event), the kids get to work with one or two partners to solve them. Of course, they also have to define the words, then write a dialogue that incorporates a certain percentage of them. |

all koreans cheat...it is in thier blood...they have no honor their whole outlook is if you dont get caught then its not bad...if you do get caught its only bad if someone makes it bad.
I think the level of cheating not just on word search puzzles but any test, question, problem is reaching epidemic levels.
They have no concept of what they are doing is wrong. I use team for word search puzzles which is fine. But! If I catch a student cheating during an actual test I tear up thier test and give them 0 or level down. But seeing that I work at just another hagwon this means nothing as I am just the white face in the class spouting english. Grades mean nothing, the only thing that does matter is if thier parents ante up another months worth of cash....it doesnt matter it they actually learn anything...it doesnt matter if they listen as long as the cash keeps flowing in.
remember that what we do here means absolutely nothing as long as the student comes back. |

What do they put in the water in Icheon?
My kids hate word searches, and as such, I rarely use them.
I am annoyed at the cheating and talking that goes on during tests. I try every method I can think of, but the little buggers always find a way around me... except for one girl. She has cried before, during, and after every single test I have ever given. Actually, whenever I grade an assignment, she cries if I mark even a single question wrong. Last week, she cried until she vomitted. She is my director's daughter, whose response is to yell at the poor girl while she's crying, thereby precipitating more crying, and consequently, more vomitting. |

yeah sometimes... gotta admit though that word searches can be good to get the young crazy no English kids to sit down and shut up for a bit. they won't learn any english from them but they'll save your sanity at times.
I like crosswords better actually but most of the kids i teach find the easiest ones i can find STILL too hard. Argh! But a few of them can do OK. They just don't know how to think that way and don't have patience. Like they look at "1 across" and if they don't know the answer they ask for it right away, not thinking or realizing, "hmmm... now '1 down' starts with the same letter as '1 across'...." |
