Hi everyone - I believe there was a similar thread a few months ago about this but I couldn't find it (and I did search, I promise!)
Anyway I'm with SMOE and want to renew in August but my passport is going to be expiring next year. I'm going to be starting the process of getting a new passport soon and was wondering what happens to the actual visa - will I automatically get a new one put in or will I have to go to immigration to do that? Getting a new passport doesn't interfere with my present visa status does it?
Also if anyone who has done this before could recommend a photo studio that is familiar with Canadian passport photo requirements that would be great. Those passport people are picky.
Anyway thanks for your help. |

Get your new passport at your EARLIEST convenience.
After you get it you have 14 days to report the change to your local immigration office. This must be done in person. They will make the appropriate changes in your passport and transfer your re-entry permit if you have one.
Your status of sojourn is covered by your ARC so there won't be anything put into your passport if you don't have a re-entry permit. They just make the appropriate changes in the computer system so you only need to have it scanned when you go through passport control - no worry about visa or entry stamps.
(keep your old passport with you - it should be returned when you get your new one. Make sure you tick the box on the application to have it returned.)
Typically it takes 4 weeks to get a passport done from abroad but it can take longer on occasion so don't delay. Get the 48 page one - it is only 5k won more than the 24 page one.
