Well, if I did something similar, I would make sure that I had that stated in the contract. If they refuse to reimburse, then find a school that will put it in the contract. I would never sign with a school that refused the pay the airfare. Korea is not a desirable destination, so they should pay as much as possible for our services. Make 'em pay for it. |

No because they have to fork out for a visa run and related expenses.
Also, unless you have had a previous E2 your visa run may end up being back to your home country.

You'd also probably have to buy a roundtrip ticket..... some harpie at the airport wasn't even going to let me get ready to board because I had a one-way ticket..... then I had to whip out my opassport and stick it in her nose.... |

Yeah, if it is your first E2, then apply from home, don't come to Korea to do it. However, if you've had an E2 previously, then it can be done in Korea(with a visa run to Japan).
As far as purchasing the round-trip ticket, yeah, or you could purchase a one way and then a ticket to Japan. Oh, and if the "harpie" at the airport threw a shitfit, there is always the option of signing a waiver with the airline(meaning that you will accept responsibility for purchasing a ticket if you are denied entry).
Basically, if you've never worked in Korea before, it is best to just apply from home.
Oh, and I've had multiple employers reimburse me for the airfare as well as pay for the visa run to Japan. Got both of them. Just be firm and say that you need the airfare reimbursed. If they don't budge...move on to another school. |

First time E2 visa holders now need an interview with the Korean embassy or a consulate in their home country, so you would end up having to fly all the way back home in order to get your work visa processed. This is why everyone is telling you to stay home.
However, if you're American, you could do your visa run to Guam. |

Yes, first time E2 applicants are required to do the interview in their home country. Also you will need proof of exit if you're entering the country on a tourist Visa. Immigration is not supposed to let people in unless they have proof of leaving the country within the term of the tourist Visa.
Pretty much no school will reimburse you for incoming flights if you come without securing your job first. You'll also need to consider that the Visa process itself can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to complete in which you're not supposed to work. |

Ah, well that changes everything. If you can afford a plane ticket and have enough cash to hold out for a month or two, why not? You're bound to turn up something sooner or later. |
