i busted a seam on my jeans and want to bring it in to get it fixed.
already done that once before and went to ewha for that. the outcome was acceptable, but they charged me 20.000 krw.
so this time i was hoping to pay a little less.
any recommendations on where to go close to the sinchon/ hondae area or itaewon? |

Go to a local mom and pop cleaners/seamstress. It shouldn't cost more than 4000won.
Last week I got two pants hemmed and a button sewed back on for 5000won. |

I can't help, but I have another somewhat related question. Do places like drycleaner's do minor alterations (hems, zipper changes) or do you need to go to a tailor? Where I'm from, some dry cleaners do minor alterations... I suck at sewing. |

I'm pretty sure they do. If not, the worst that will happen is a arms crossed over the chest gesture, and you will have to go to the next place. |

90% of the mom n pop places do repairs. Best way to find a mom n pop place is to find a cluster of numbered apartment blocks, and find the building that houses the little market. There's pretty much always a dry cleaner-come tailor there. |

So true.
Another thing to keep in mind that in many shopping districts there will be an alteration place that most shopkeepers know about, when you buy pants you can ask them to prep for hemming - like measuring or whatnot - then take them to the alteration shop. |

To find a tailor shop go to any traditional Korean market and then walk around the side streets. Go after 12 noon, as some might not open early, and look hard as some of these are really small hole-in-the-wall/closet joints. Sometimes the tailor is just an old adjuma sitting in the market infront of a sewing machine.
A recent zipper replacement = 4,000 won. Hemming over the last 2 year's = 1 - 3,000 won (too cheap, so I gave them a 1,000 tip).
Good luck. |

I agree. It seems too cheap. |

When it comes to tailoring, you get what you pay for. If it's something simple, a cheap job is okay but I would NEVER go to a dry cleaners for anything more than replacing a zipper or just sewing up something. |

Almost without exception, they do.
