So I get this offer from a school. I was a little taken aback at what they asked me to do ... then I started thinking maybe I'm the unreasonable one. Anyway, can someone take a look at this and tell me if this seems normal? By the way, I will only be working for 8-10 weeks.

1. Pay - 6 million flat for the duration of June 22- September 3rd, no overtime. No flight assistance or living arrangements. (I feel this is somewhat fair since I'm not committing to a year-long contract)

2. Working hours/ schedule (this is verbatim from the e-mail I received) - We are looking at a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule of core classes, with a few classes on Saturday too. The MWF schedule is 9-12, 1-4, 4-6, & 7-10. The Saturday is 2-4, 4-7, & 7-10. MWF is a lot of hours, but leaves so much other time free. (eeeek! 13 hour days! no prep time - all student contact hours. It comes up to 41 hours of student contact time.)

3. Curriculum material -
AP Econ
AP Gov
Debate
Law & Literature
And Saturday classes are forensics orientation classes.
(Not sure about this; the person I spoke to was very vague on this point. Granted, I've taught all this before in different capacities, I don't know how they expect me plan and teach for all these courses in a space of 10 weeks. If I do this properly, I would never sleep, prepping, planning and grading. )

Not sure if I should accept ... any advice?

Thanks to all who took the time to read this long, rambling post.

You get 6 million for 10 weeks.... a hakwon monkey has 11 contact hours per week less and makes 5.5-6 million + housing and benefits (based on an average salary of 2.2).

An experienced hakwon teacher at 2.4 will get 6 mil + benefits for 30 contact hours per week (30 classes) + an extra 250k per week for the extra 11 classes.

you do the math...

Teaching AP you should be getting about a mil per week + housing as a minimum (I assume you have an "F" visa and don't have that to worry about).

I had a feeling it was a bit ridiculous. I'm not surprised though- after all, I am only looking to work 2 months. Thanks for your sage advice, Ttom - I've been keeping on eye on the forum and it seems like you've attained almost a Jedi-level wisdom re: teaching in Korea! Very Happy

10 bucks says they expect the teacher to come up with all the materials for the forensics portion. Very Happy
