|
|
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate..
I create a System Restore point, however after I turn my computer off and turn it back on - it states that I have NO restore points.
My system restore for C: drive is always on, I have allowed it 5% (1.96GB) for system restore points
BUT for some reason (even if I manually create a system restore point) once the computer has been restarted - it always shows NO system restore points.
What is the problem and how to fix it? |

| I'm guessing it needs a lot more than 1.5GB.......try somewhere around 10GB. |

Thats not the problem.
10GB would be 25% of my entire C: drive (windows system drive)
(My computer is partitioned so C:drive is only 40GB,
then I have E: drive 160GB, F: drive 160GB and G: drive 160GB)
However C: drive should be smaller at around 40GB so the computer runs faster - only windows stuff is stored in C: drive (and "System restore" is Windows stuff) |

| You don't put the system restore on the same drive as the OS. You should put it on a different physical drive. If you only have 1 drive, at least on a different partition. |

how do I save what drive the system restore is saved onto (I am not talking about System/Windows back-up) I am talking about System Restore.
There seems to be no option for saving "System Restore points" to a different drive - it is just automatically C: drive |

I might be wrong but I still suspect System Restore needs a lot more than 1.5GB..........this from the wiki article...
If there is no adequate free space, System Restore will fail to create a restore points. In this case, the user may discover that there is not a single restore point available with which to restore the system.
A 40GB C: drive might have been enough back in the days of XP....but W7 Ultimate is a huge OS and System Restore is basically a 'shadow copy'.
I personally use 150GB for my W7 partition. That's still a small enough partition to run at the max speed for the HDD. |

I have been using a 50GB partition since Vista and never had a problem. W7 is small compared to Vista and I am still on the same partition.... |

Yeah. I know the OS won't use all 40GB for the System Restore, but I think it needs more than 1.5GB allowance. |

| My W7 Ultimate installation shows up as 20GB on my C: drive......but I think the actual OS files are about 11GB......that would suggest that around 9GB of space is used for restore points. |
