I will be changing jobs at the end of June (from E7 to E2). My question is when I apply for my new visa and submit my letter of release (and all other documents), will my old visa be cancelled right away therefore making me an illegal resident and maybe get fined when I receive my visa issuance number and do my visa run to Japan? Wow, that was the definition of a run-on sentence. Here let me give you an example: My current visa is valid until March of 2011. I will be changing jobs in June so I need a letter of release from my current school. If I apply for a new visa, with my letter of release, on June 21, will my current visa be cancelled leaving me with no visa while I wait for my new number and therefore subject to fines for overstay when I make my visa run to Japan at the beginning of July? Is there some sort of buffer period? |

Once you have a new visa issued, your old one will be void. I have no idea though on your case...I would call immigration and ask them. |

No one has been in this situation? Damn. Guess I am SOL since immigration on the phone doesn't understand my question... |
